How the real written test works
In Korea, the written test has 40 questions on a computer at a testing center. Class 1 requires 70 or more and Class 2 requires 60 or more. Some questions have one correct answer and some have two, and some are based on photos or videos.
Practice by topic
Questions are divided into eight topics: signals and signs, rules of the road, speed and distance, safe driving, penalties, vehicle care, accidents and emergencies, and motorcycles and personal mobility. Pick your weak topics and focus on them.
40-question mock exam
The mock exam draws 40 questions from all topics. When you finish, it shows your score and whether you cleared the Class 1 (70) and Class 2 (60) pass marks. It is good practice for working through a full test in one go.
Wrong-answer notebook
Questions you get wrong are saved on this device so you can redo them in the wrong-answer notebook. Repeating until you get them right clears up confusing rules. Each explanation covers why the answer is correct and why common wrong answers are wrong.
Please note
These questions are original practice items based on the Road Traffic Act and official guidance, not actual test items. The official question bank is available from the Korea Road Traffic Authority's Safe Driving Civil Service portal.

1.The light turns from green to yellow when the front of your car is already inside the intersection. What should you do?
- Stop right where you are
- Reverse back behind the stop line
- Proceed promptly and clear the intersection
- Wait inside the intersection until the light turns red
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Proceed promptly and clear the intersection
In Korea, if any part of the vehicle has already entered the intersection when the light turns yellow, the driver must promptly proceed out of it. Stopping in the middle or reversing blocks cross traffic and is more dangerous.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Annex 2
-
2.You are approaching an intersection with plenty of distance left to the stop line when the light turns yellow. What is correct?
- Stop just before the stop line
- Speed up to get through quickly
- Cross the stop line and stop on the crosswalk
- Sound the horn and keep going
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Stop just before the stop line
In Korea, if you have not yet entered the intersection on a yellow light, you must stop just before the stop line (or before the crosswalk or intersection if there is no line). Accelerating to beat the light easily leads to a signal violation or a crash.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Annex 2
-
3.The vehicle signal at an intersection is flashing red. What must the driver do?
- Pass through while driving slowly
- Make a brief full stop just before the stop line, then proceed with care for other traffic
- Stay stopped until it turns green
- Only right turns are allowed; going straight is not
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Make a brief full stop just before the stop line, then proceed with care for other traffic
In Korea, a flashing red light means you must come to a brief full stop before the stop line or crosswalk (or before the intersection), then proceed while watching other traffic. Merely slowing down is not enough, and since a flashing light does not cycle to green, there is no need to keep waiting.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Annex 2
-
4.Late at night, the vehicle signal at an intersection is flashing yellow. Which statement is correct?
- You must always make a full stop at the stop line
- It means the intersection is closed to traffic
- The signal is broken, so wait for the police
- You may proceed while paying attention to other traffic and signs
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — You may proceed while paying attention to other traffic and signs
In Korea, a flashing yellow light means you may proceed while paying attention to other traffic and to traffic signs. The obligation to stop applies to a flashing red light. You still have a duty of care, so slow down and check both sides.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Annex 2
-
5.At an intersection without an unprotected-left-turn sign, the vehicle signal shows a round green light. Which movements are allowed?
- Straight ahead only
- Straight ahead or a right turn
- Straight, left and right turns
- Left turn only
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Straight ahead or a right turn
In Korea, on a round green light vehicles may go straight or turn right. A left turn requires a green left arrow, or a location marked with an unprotected-left-turn sign. When turning right, you must not obstruct pedestrians.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Annex 2
-
6.At an intersection with an unprotected-left-turn sign, how should you turn left?
- Turn on a red light if there is no oncoming car
- Hurry to turn the moment the light turns yellow
- Turn on a green light without obstructing oncoming traffic
- You may turn at any time regardless of the signal
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Turn on a green light without obstructing oncoming traffic
In Korea, an unprotected left turn is made on a green light, only when it does not obstruct oncoming straight-through traffic. Turning left on red is a signal violation. If cars are coming, wait until they have passed.
-
7.At an intersection that has a separate right-turn signal (arrow signal), when may you turn right?
- When the right-turn signal shows a green arrow
- When the main signal is red and no pedestrians are present
- Even on a red right-turn signal, as long as you stopped first
- Any time the yellow arrow is lit
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — When the right-turn signal shows a green arrow
In Korea, since 22 January 2023, where a right-turn signal is installed you may turn right only when it shows a green arrow. If the right-turn signal is red, you must not turn, even after stopping.
-
8.At an intersection without a right-turn signal, the vehicle signal is red. How should you turn right?
- Turn slowly without stopping
- You may never turn right on a red light
- Sound the horn to warn pedestrians, then turn
- Make a full stop at the stop line first, then turn without obstructing other vehicles or pedestrians
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Make a full stop at the stop line first, then turn without obstructing other vehicles or pedestrians
In Korea, where there is no right-turn signal, you may turn right on red only after first making a full stop before the stop line, crosswalk or intersection, and only without obstructing vehicles moving on their signal or pedestrians. Rolling through slowly without stopping is a violation.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Annex 2
-
9.The green pedestrian light has started flashing. What does this mean for pedestrians?
- They may start crossing
- They must not start crossing; those already crossing should finish quickly or return
- All vehicles will stop, so they can cross slowly
- The pedestrian signal is broken
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — They must not start crossing; those already crossing should finish quickly or return
In Korea, a flashing green pedestrian light means the signal is about to change: pedestrians must not start crossing, and those already crossing should finish promptly or go back to the sidewalk. Drivers should expect that some pedestrians may still be crossing late.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Annex 2
-
10.The traffic light is green, but a police officer directing traffic is signalling you to stop by hand. What should you do?
- The traffic light takes priority, so keep going
- Follow whichever is more convenient
- Stop as directed by the police officer
- Sound the horn to alert the officer, then proceed
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Stop as directed by the police officer
In Korea, when a traffic signal and the signal or instruction of a police officer directing traffic differ, you must follow the police officer. The officer is managing traffic according to the situation on the spot, such as a crash or an event.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 5
-
11.A lane-control signal above a lane shows a red X. What does it mean?
- You may not drive in that lane
- You must drive slowly in that lane
- That lane is for buses only
- You may make a U-turn from that lane
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — You may not drive in that lane
In Korea, a red X on a lane-control signal means vehicles may not proceed in that lane. These signals show whether a lane is open, for example on reversible lanes, in tunnels or at toll plazas, so move to an open lane in advance.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Annex 2
-
12.A lane-control signal above a lane shows a green arrow pointing down. What does it mean?
- You must stop in that lane
- The lane is about to close, so leave it
- Only left turns are allowed from that lane
- You may proceed in that lane
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — You may proceed in that lane
In Korea, a downward green arrow on a lane-control signal means you may proceed in that lane. A red X means you may not, and a flashing red X means do not enter and, if already in it, move out of the lane.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Annex 2
-
13.The lane-control signal above the lane you are driving in changes to a flashing red X. What should you do?
- Keep driving in that lane but slow down
- Do not enter the lane, and if already in it, promptly move to another lane
- Stop where you are and wait for the signal to change
- Turn on the hazard lights and continue
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Do not enter the lane, and if already in it, promptly move to another lane
In Korea, a flashing red X means you may not enter that lane, and if any part of your vehicle is already in it, you must promptly change out of it. The lane may soon be used for the opposite direction or closed, so staying in it or stopping is dangerous.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Annex 2
-
14.Under Korea's road traffic regulations, which is NOT a category of traffic safety sign?
- Warning signs
- Regulatory signs
- Road markings
- Guide signs
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Guide signs
In Korea, the Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act defines five kinds of traffic safety signs: warning, regulatory, instruction, supplementary signs and road markings. Guide signs showing place names and directions are not among them.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Article 8
-
15.What is the typical shape and colour of a warning sign that alerts drivers to hazards ahead, such as curves or slippery roads?
- A blue circle
- A white circle with a red border
- A yellow triangle with a red border
- A white rectangle
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — A yellow triangle with a red border
In Korea, most warning signs are yellow triangles with a red border. Red-bordered circles are mostly regulatory signs, blue backgrounds are used for instruction signs, and white rectangles under a main sign are typically supplementary signs.
-
16.Instruction signs such as 'one way' or 'bicycle-only road' tell drivers how to use the road. What background colour do they mainly use?
- Blue
- Yellow
- Red
- Black
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Blue
In Korea, instruction signs indicate how to use the road or how traffic is divided, and mostly use white symbols on a blue background. Yellow backgrounds are mainly for warning signs, and red borders for regulatory signs.
-
17.What is the role of a supplementary sign attached below a warning, regulatory or instruction sign?
- It cancels the main sign
- It supplements the main sign's meaning (time, distance, vehicle type, etc.)
- It shows the name of the road
- It is for advertising
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — It supplements the main sign's meaning (time, distance, vehicle type, etc.)
In Korea, supplementary signs add to the main sign's function by showing when, how far, over what section or to which vehicles it applies. For example, a time plate under a no-parking sign means the restriction applies during those hours.
-
18.What does a regulatory sign showing a white horizontal bar inside a red circle mean?
- Stop
- No parking
- No entry
- No overtaking
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — No entry
In Korea, a red circle with a white horizontal bar is the 'no entry' sign, placed where vehicles are prohibited from entering, such as the exit end of a one-way street. Do not enter in that direction; find another route.
-
19.At an intersection with a red octagonal 'stop' sign, what must the driver do?
- Come to a full stop just before the stop line, check for safety, then proceed
- Just slow down; no need to stop
- Stop only if other vehicles are visible
- Sound the horn and proceed
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Come to a full stop just before the stop line, check for safety, then proceed
In Korea, the stop sign marks a place where vehicles must come to a brief full stop. Even if no other vehicles are visible, stop the wheels completely, check left and right, then proceed. Merely slowing down is a violation.
-
20.A solid yellow centre line runs down the middle of the road. Which statement is correct?
- You may cross it to overtake a slow vehicle
- You may cross it to make a U-turn if no oncoming car is present
- It may not be crossed only at night
- Vehicles must not cross it
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Vehicles must not cross it
In Korea, a solid yellow centre line separates opposing traffic and must not be crossed. Crossing it to overtake or make a U-turn is a centre-line violation and can lead to head-on collisions.
-
21.Which statement about a broken (dashed) yellow centre line is correct?
- It may never be crossed
- You may cross it temporarily, e.g. to overtake, while watching for oncoming traffic
- You may cross it and keep driving in the opposite lane
- Only buses may cross it
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — You may cross it temporarily, e.g. to overtake, while watching for oncoming traffic
In Korea, a dashed yellow centre line may be crossed temporarily, for example to overtake, while paying attention to oncoming traffic. You must have a clear view ahead and not be in a no-overtaking location, and you must return to your lane as soon as you have passed.
-
22.Lanes going in the same direction are separated by a solid white line. What may you NOT do in this section?
- Change into the adjacent lane
- Go straight along your lane
- Keep a safe distance from the car ahead
- Drive within the speed limit
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Change into the adjacent lane
In Korea, a solid white line between lanes in the same direction restricts lane changes. It is usually marked where changing lanes is dangerous, such as just before intersections, in tunnels or on bridges, so choose your lane earlier where the line is dashed.
-
23.What colour of road marking is used to separate a designated traffic stream, such as a bus-only lane?
- White
- Yellow
- Blue
- Red
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Blue
In Korea, blue road markings separate designated traffic streams, with bus-only and multi-occupancy vehicle lanes as typical examples. Yellow mainly separates opposing traffic or restricts road use, and white separates traffic in the same direction or marks edges.
-
24.A red marking is painted on the road edge or kerb around a fire hydrant or other firefighting facility. What does it mean?
- Short-term parking is allowed
- Both stopping and parking are prohibited
- You may park if no fire engine is around
- Parking is banned only at night
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Both stopping and parking are prohibited
In Korea, red road markings around firefighting facilities indicate a no-stopping and no-parking zone. Fire engines must be able to use the hydrant immediately in a fire, so even a brief stop is not allowed.
-
25.A dashed yellow line runs along the road edge (no supplementary sign). Which statement is correct?
- Stopping and parking are both freely allowed
- Stopping and parking are both prohibited
- Only buses may stop
- Parking is prohibited, but stopping is allowed
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Parking is prohibited, but stopping is allowed
In Korea, a dashed yellow edge line means no parking, while stopping that does not count as parking, such as a stop of up to five minutes, is allowed. A solid yellow edge line prohibits both stopping and parking, so remember the difference.
-
26.A white diamond (◇) marking is painted on the lane. What does it indicate?
- A pedestrian crossing ahead
- A railway crossing ahead
- This is a bus-only lane
- You may overtake here
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — A pedestrian crossing ahead
In Korea, a white diamond road marking warns of a pedestrian crossing ahead. When you see it, slow down and check for pedestrians around the crosswalk.
-
27.At an intersection with a stop line and a crosswalk, where should you stop on a red light?
- On the crosswalk
- Just before the stop line
- In the middle of the intersection
- Slightly past the stop line
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Just before the stop line
In Korea, on a red light you must stop just before the stop line. Stopping past it or on the crosswalk blocks pedestrians and is a stop-line violation.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Annex 2
-
28.You arrive at an intersection that normally has traffic lights, but a power cut has turned them all off and no one is directing traffic. How should you proceed?
- With no signal, whoever enters first has priority, so speed up
- Treat it as green and drive through
- Treat it as an uncontrolled intersection: slow down or stop and follow the yielding rules
- Wait unconditionally until the lights come back on
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Treat it as an uncontrolled intersection: slow down or stop and follow the yielding rules
In Korea, if the signals are not working and no one is directing traffic, treat it as an intersection without traffic control. Slow down, stop if needed, and yield to vehicles already in the intersection or with priority. Speeding up to get in first greatly increases the risk of a collision.
-
29.The vehicle signal shows a red light together with a green left-turn arrow. Which statement is correct?
- You may go straight or turn left
- You may only go straight
- No movement is allowed
- You may turn left but not go straight
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — You may turn left but not go straight
In Korea, a green arrow lets vehicles proceed in the direction of the arrow, while the red light shown with it means going straight is not allowed. In other words, only left-turning vehicles may go.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Annex 2
-
30.The left-turn arrow changes from green to yellow. A left-turning car has not yet reached the stop line. What should it do?
- Stop just before the stop line
- Hurry to turn before the yellow arrow goes off
- Change direction and go straight instead
- Enter the intersection and wait there
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Stop just before the stop line
In Korea, on a yellow arrow, vehicles intending to go in the arrow's direction must stop before the stop line (or crosswalk or intersection). As with a round yellow light, a vehicle already partly inside the intersection should proceed promptly out of it.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Annex 2
-
31.Your light has turned green, but a pedestrian who started late is still crossing the crosswalk in front of you. What should you do?
- It's green, so sound the horn and go
- Pass quickly in front of the pedestrian
- Wait until the pedestrian has finished crossing, then go
- Go around behind the pedestrian
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Wait until the pedestrian has finished crossing, then go
In Korea, drivers must not obstruct or endanger pedestrians crossing at a crosswalk. Even if the light has changed, wait until anyone still crossing has finished. Avoid using the horn to hurry them.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 27
-
32.Choose the TWO regulatory signs.Choose 2
- No-entry sign
- Maximum speed limit sign
- One-way sign
- Bicycle-only road sign
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① ② — No-entry sign / Maximum speed limit sign
In Korea, the no-entry and maximum speed limit signs are regulatory signs that announce restrictions and prohibitions for road safety. One-way and bicycle-only road signs are instruction signs that tell road users how to travel.
-
33.You approach an intersection on a red light, but no stop line is painted. Where must you stop?
- In the middle of the intersection
- Just before the intersection (or before the crosswalk, if there is one)
- On the far side of the intersection
- No need to stop; just slow down
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Just before the intersection (or before the crosswalk, if there is one)
In Korea, on a red light you stop before the stop line if there is one; if not, stop before the crosswalk or before the intersection. The absence of a stop line does not allow you to enter the intersection.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Annex 2
-
34.A dashed white line separates lanes going in the same direction. Which statement is correct?
- It may never be crossed
- It separates opposing traffic
- Only buses may cross it
- You may change lanes after checking it is safe
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — You may change lanes after checking it is safe
In Korea, a dashed white line between lanes in the same direction permits lane changes. Signal in advance and change only when you will not obstruct vehicles behind or beside you. Opposing traffic is separated by the yellow centre line.
-
35.You approach a crosswalk to turn right. The pedestrian light is green and people are crossing (no right-turn signal). What should you do?
- Pass slowly through a gap between pedestrians
- Give a short toot of the horn and pass
- Stop before the crosswalk and wait until the pedestrians have finished crossing
- Go through if the pedestrians are at the far end of the crosswalk
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Stop before the crosswalk and wait until the pedestrians have finished crossing
In Korea, when pedestrians are crossing or about to cross at a crosswalk, drivers must stop before it (before the stop line if there is one). Even if pedestrians are on the far side, wait until they have finished crossing; squeezing through a gap can be a violation.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 27
-
36.You are approaching the stop line to turn right when the vehicle signal turns yellow (there is no right-turn signal). Based on what a yellow light means in Korea, which statement is correct?
- You may never turn right on a yellow light
- You may turn right, but must not obstruct pedestrians crossing
- When turning right, vehicles have priority over pedestrians
- Speed up and turn right before the yellow light ends
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — You may turn right, but must not obstruct pedestrians crossing
In Korea, the meaning of a yellow light includes stopping before the stop line, and also states that vehicles may turn right but must not obstruct pedestrians crossing while doing so. Right turns are not banned outright, but vehicles do not have priority over pedestrians. Rushing to beat the light is dangerous.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Annex 2
-
37.A yellow arrow is flashing on the vehicle signal. What does it mean?
- You may never proceed in the arrow's direction
- You must stop fully at the stop line and wait for the signal to change
- You may proceed in the arrow's direction while watching for other traffic and signs
- You have priority to proceed in the arrow's direction
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — You may proceed in the arrow's direction while watching for other traffic and signs
In Korea, a flashing yellow arrow means you may proceed in the arrow's direction while paying attention to other traffic and to traffic signs. It neither bans movement nor requires you to wait for a change. It does not guarantee priority, so you must check around you.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Annex 2
-
38.A red arrow is flashing on the vehicle signal. How should you proceed?
- Make a brief stop just before the stop line, then proceed in the arrow's direction while watching for other traffic
- You may continue slowly in the arrow's direction without stopping
- Since it is red, you cannot proceed until a green arrow appears
- Sound the horn to warn others, then proceed
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Make a brief stop just before the stop line, then proceed in the arrow's direction while watching for other traffic
In Korea, when a red arrow flashes, you must make a brief stop just before the stop line or crosswalk (or before the intersection if there is none), then you may proceed in the arrow's direction while watching for other traffic. Only slowing down without stopping is wrong. Because it is flashing, you do not have to wait for a green arrow.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Annex 2
-
39.In the middle of an intersection, an area filled with yellow diagonal hatching is painted on the road. What does this 'no-stopping zone' marking mean?
- It is a space where vehicles may briefly wait
- Only buses may stop there
- It is where pedestrians cross
- Vehicles must not stop inside this area
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Vehicles must not stop inside this area
In Korea, a no-stopping zone marking means vehicles must not stop inside the marked area, such as the center of an intersection or plaza. If you are likely to end up stopped inside it because of a light or congestion, do not enter. It is not a waiting area, a bus stop, or a crossing.
-
40.A solid yellow line is painted along the edge of the road (the road-edge line). There is no supplementary sign giving times. Which is correct about this section?
- Both stopping and parking are allowed
- Both stopping and parking are prohibited
- Parking is prohibited but stopping is allowed
- Parking is prohibited only at night
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Both stopping and parking are prohibited
In Korea, a solid yellow road-edge line means both stopping and parking are prohibited. Distinguish it from a dashed yellow line, which bans parking but allows stopping. If a supplementary sign sets specific times or days, follow it.
-
41.The center line is a double line: a solid yellow line beside a dashed yellow line. The dashed line is on your side and the solid line is on the oncoming side. Which is correct?
- Neither side may cross the center line
- Both sides may cross freely to overtake
- You, on the dashed side, may cross temporarily to overtake while watching oncoming traffic; vehicles on the solid side may not
- Only vehicles on the solid side may cross
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — You, on the dashed side, may cross temporarily to overtake while watching oncoming traffic; vehicles on the solid side may not
In Korea, a double center line of solid and dashed yellow means only vehicles on the dashed side may cross it, and vehicles on the solid side may not. Even on the dashed side, you may cross only temporarily after checking oncoming traffic and where overtaking is not prohibited.
-
42.Inside an intersection, a curved dashed white line (a left-turn guide line) continues from the left-turn lane. What is the correct way to turn left?
- Turn left following the guide line
- Ignore the guide line and cut the shortest path
- Swing wide outside the guide line
- Stop on the guide line and wait for oncoming cars
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Turn left following the guide line
In Korea, a left-turn guide line inside an intersection shows the path left-turning vehicles should follow. Following it reduces the risk of hitting cars turning in the next lane or oncoming vehicles. Cutting the corner or swinging wide intrudes on other vehicles' paths.
-
43.Only a straight-ahead arrow is painted in your lane. You want to turn left at the intersection from this lane. Which is correct?
- You may turn left from this lane as long as you signal
- You may turn left if the intersection is empty
- Road arrows are only for reference and need not be followed
- You cannot turn left from this lane, so move to the left-turn lane in advance
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — You cannot turn left from this lane, so move to the left-turn lane in advance
In Korea, direction arrows on the road indicate where traffic in that lane may go. Turning left from a straight-only lane violates the direction marking and risks hitting cars in the next lane. Change to the left-turn lane before reaching the intersection.
-
44.Below a U-turn sign is a supplementary sign reading 'on left-turn signal'. When may you make a U-turn?
- At any time, regardless of the signal
- When the left-turn signal is on
- Only when the signal is red
- Only when the pedestrian signal is green
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — When the left-turn signal is on
In Korea, a supplementary sign adds conditions to the main sign. With an 'on left-turn signal' plate, you may make a U-turn when the left-turn signal is on. Even then, take care not to obstruct oncoming vehicles or pedestrians.
-
45.At an intersection with broken traffic lights, a 'model driver' volunteer is helping the police by directing traffic with hand signals. What should you do?
- Ignore them and proceed, since they are not police officers
- Decide based on the dark traffic lights
- Follow the model driver's hand signals
- Sound your horn to announce you are going first
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Follow the model driver's hand signals
In Korea, drivers must also follow signals and instructions given by people assisting police officers, such as model driver volunteers. You must not ignore them just because they are not police. When the lights are broken, the hand signals on site are what controls traffic.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 5
-
46.At the entrance to an uncontrolled intersection stands an inverted-triangle 'Yield' regulatory sign. What should a driver who sees it do?
- Yield to vehicles on the other road when entering the intersection
- Proceed, since it means your road has priority
- Always stop and wait for one minute
- Sound the horn to announce you are entering
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Yield to vehicles on the other road when entering the intersection
In Korea, the 'Yield' sign is a regulatory sign requiring you to give way to other vehicles. If others are coming, slow down or stop and let them go first; if none are coming, you may continue. It does not mean your road has priority.
-
47.On this road there is only a 'No Parking' regulatory sign, and no other reason that stopping is prohibited. What may you do here?
- Leave the car and eat at a restaurant
- Leave the car for an hour while you shop
- Leave the car overnight
- Stop briefly to let a passenger out
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Stop briefly to let a passenger out
In Korea, a 'No Parking' sign bans only parking; it does not ban stopping for up to five minutes. So, if nothing else prohibits it, a short stop to drop someone off is allowed. Leaving the car so you cannot drive it immediately, or leaving it for a long time, counts as parking.
-
48.Your turn signal is broken, so you must signal by hand. In a car with the driver's seat on the left, which hand signal is correct for a left turn?
- Raise your right arm and wave it
- Extend your left arm horizontally out of the left side of the car
- Lower your left arm and point backward
- Sound the horn twice
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Extend your left arm horizontally out of the left side of the car
In Korea, the hand signal for turning left, making a U-turn, or moving to the left is to extend the left arm horizontally out of the left side of the vehicle. The horn cannot replace a direction signal. A broken turn signal should be repaired as soon as possible.
-
49.A supplementary sign for a curbside bus-only lane says it operates '07:00-21:00'. At 10 p.m., which is correct about driving a car in this lane?
- Bus-only lanes can never be used, regardless of the time
- Only taxis may use it
- Outside the operating hours, you may use it like a normal lane
- You may use it only with hazard lights on
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Outside the operating hours, you may use it like a normal lane
In Korea, a bus-only lane is reserved only during the hours shown on the sign. Outside those hours, other vehicles may use it. During the operating hours you may not, so always check the times on the supplementary sign.
-
50.Along the edge of an expressway stand a 'Check following distance' sign and then signs reading 0 m, 50 m and 100 m. What are these signs for?
- To help you judge the gap to the car ahead and keep a safe distance
- To show the distance to the next exit
- To show the minimum speed for the section
- To show where you may stop on the shoulder
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — To help you judge the gap to the car ahead and keep a safe distance
In Korea, following-distance check signs let you judge how far you are from the car ahead using the 0 m, 50 m and 100 m markers. The faster you go, the longer your stopping distance, so they help build the habit of keeping enough space. They are not exit signs or permitted stopping areas.
-
51.You enter a section with a 'Children's Protection Zone' sign and red-paved road (there is no separate sign permitting stopping or parking). Choose the TWO things you must do here.Choose 2
- If no children are visible, drive at normal road speed
- Keep to the speed limit (in principle, 30 km/h or less)
- You may park briefly if your hazard lights are on
- Do not stop or park at the roadside
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② ④ — Keep to the speed limit (in principle, 30 km/h or less) / Do not stop or park at the roadside
In Korea, the speed limit in a children's protection zone is in principle 30 km/h or less, even when no children are in sight. Children's protection zones designated by local authorities are also no-stopping and no-parking areas, so unless a sign allows it you cannot stop there even with hazard lights on. The red paving is there to make the zone stand out.

52.You are circulating in a roundabout and want to leave at the next exit. How should you use your turn signal?
- Turn signals are not used in roundabouts
- Turn on the left signal and exit
- Turn on the right signal to show you are leaving
- Turn on the hazard lights and exit
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Turn on the right signal to show you are leaving
In Korea, when leaving a roundabout you turn on the right signal to show waiting and following drivers that you are exiting. That lets drivers waiting to enter predict your movement. Exiting without signaling or using hazard lights confuses other drivers.
-
53.Among the colors used for road markings, what does yellow mainly mean?
- It separates or borders traffic going the same way
- It separates traffic for a designated use, such as a bus lane
- It emphasizes the speed limit in a children's protection zone
- It separates opposing traffic or restricts and directs road use
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — It separates opposing traffic or restricts and directs road use
In Korea, yellow road markings separate opposing traffic, as with the center line, or restrict and direct road use, as with no-stopping lines. White separates traffic going the same way, and blue separates traffic for a designated use such as a bus lane. Red is used for emphasis, such as in children's protection zones.
-
54.On an expressway you see sudden congestion ahead and must slow down sharply. What helps prevent being rear-ended?
- While slowing, briefly turn on the hazard lights to warn drivers behind
- Avoid braking and swerve onto the shoulder
- Keep your high beams on to warn the car ahead
- Sound a long horn and change lanes often
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — While slowing, briefly turn on the hazard lights to warn drivers behind
In Korea, rear-end crashes often happen at the tail of expressway congestion because following drivers notice too late. Slowing gradually and briefly turning on the hazard lights lets them recognize the danger sooner. Using the shoulder is not allowed, and overusing high beams or the horn and changing lanes often only add risk.
-
55.You turned on your turn signal to turn right at an intersection. When should you turn it off?
- Right after turning it on
- Keep it on until you finish the right turn, then turn it off
- Keep it on after the intersection until the next one
- Turn it off when you see a pedestrian
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Keep it on until you finish the right turn, then turn it off
In Korea, a direction signal must be kept on until the maneuver is complete and turned off once it is done. Turning it off too early leaves others unsure of your intent, and leaving it on makes them think you are still about to turn.

56.On a road with a centre line, where should vehicles normally travel?
- On the left side of the centre line
- On the right side of the centre line
- Anywhere on the road that is empty
- On the boundary between the sidewalk and roadway
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — On the right side of the centre line
Korea drives on the right: vehicles must use the part of the road to the right of the centre (or of the centre line, if marked). Using the left side is allowed only in exceptional cases such as one-way roads or a damaged road.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 13
-
57.In which case may a vehicle use the centre or left side of the road?
- When the car ahead is slower than the speed limit
- When the right-hand lanes are blocked by congestion
- When overtaking on a road whose right side is less than 6 metres wide, with a clear view of oncoming traffic and outside a no-overtaking area
- At night, when no oncoming headlights are visible
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — When overtaking on a road whose right side is less than 6 metres wide, with a clear view of oncoming traffic and outside a no-overtaking area
In Korea, on a road whose right-hand part is less than 6 metres wide, a driver may use the centre or left side to overtake, provided it will not obstruct oncoming traffic and the place is not a no-overtaking area. A slow car ahead or congestion alone is no reason to cross the centre line.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 13
-
58.What is the basic rule for overtaking the vehicle ahead?
- Overtake on its left
- Overtake on its right
- Overtake on whichever side is wider
- Overtake using the shoulder
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Overtake on its left
In Korea, overtaking is done on the left of the vehicle ahead. Pay full attention to oncoming traffic and to traffic in front of the other vehicle, use your turn signal, and keep a safe speed. Overtaking on the right or via the shoulder is a violation and very dangerous.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 21
-
59.Choose the TWO places where overtaking is prohibited.Choose 2
- Inside a tunnel
- A straight road with two lanes each way
- An intersection
- A straight road with good visibility and a dashed yellow centre line
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① ③ — Inside a tunnel / An intersection
In Korea, overtaking is prohibited at intersections, inside tunnels, on bridges, at bends, near the crest of a hill and on steep downhill slopes, among others. A straight road with good visibility is not, by itself, a no-overtaking place.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 22
-
60.The car behind you is trying to overtake. What should you, the driver being overtaken, do?
- Speed up so it cannot pass
- Move to the middle to block it
- Sound the horn as a warning
- Do not speed up or interfere with the overtaking
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Do not speed up or interfere with the overtaking
In Korea, when another vehicle is overtaking you, you must not speed up to compete or block its path. If necessary, ease off slightly so the other driver can finish overtaking quickly.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 21
-
61.The car in front of you is about to overtake the vehicle ahead of it. What should you do?
- Overtake alongside it at the same time
- Do not overtake it; wait until it has finished overtaking
- Overtake it on the right
- Sound the horn to make it move over
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Do not overtake it; wait until it has finished overtaking
In Korea, you may not overtake a vehicle that is overtaking or about to overtake another vehicle, nor when another vehicle is running alongside on its left. Wait until it has finished and it is safe.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 22
-
62.Following a police officer's instructions, a line of cars ahead is moving slowly. You are in the next lane. What must you NOT do?
- Move slowly at the same pace in your lane
- Check the officer's instructions
- Cut in between the cars in the line
- Keep a safe distance from the car ahead
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Cut in between the cars in the line
In Korea, you must not cut in front of vehicles that are stopped or moving slowly in accordance with the law or a police officer's instructions. Cutting in disrupts traffic flow and causes collisions.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 23
-
63.What is the correct way to turn right at an intersection?
- Move to the right edge of the road in advance and turn slowly
- Swing wide around the centre of the intersection
- Turn directly from the second or third lane
- Speed up and turn quickly
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Move to the right edge of the road in advance and turn slowly
In Korea, to turn right you must move along the right edge of the road in advance and turn slowly. Turning sharply from an outer lane can easily hit motorcycles, bicycles or pedestrians on your right.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 25
-
64.What is the basic way to turn left at an intersection (unless otherwise designated)?
- Swing wide from the right edge of the road
- Use the outside of the intersection's centre
- Cross into the opposite lane beforehand
- Move along the centre line in advance and turn slowly, passing inside the centre of the intersection
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Move along the centre line in advance and turn slowly, passing inside the centre of the intersection
In Korea, the basic rule for a left turn is to move along the centre line in advance, slow down, and turn using the inside of the intersection's centre. Where designated by the provincial police, the outside may be used, and guide lines on the road should be followed.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 25
-
65.The light is green, but traffic on the far side of the intersection is backed up, so if you enter you will likely be stuck inside it. What should you do?
- Enter anyway because it's green
- Do not enter; wait before the stop line
- Follow closely behind the car ahead
- Sound the horn to hurry the car ahead
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Do not enter; wait before the stop line
In Korea, even at a signalled intersection you must not enter if traffic ahead means you are likely to stop inside it. Blocking the box stops cross traffic and can paralyse the whole intersection.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 25
-
66.You are about to enter an intersection without traffic control, and a car from another road has already entered and is crossing. What should you do?
- Yield to the car already in the intersection
- Enter first if your road is wider
- Sound the horn and enter at the same time
- Speed up to get through before it
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Yield to the car already in the intersection
In Korea, at an intersection without traffic control, you must yield to any vehicle that has already entered the intersection. Priority based on road width or direction applies only when no one has entered yet.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 26
-
67.At an intersection without traffic control, you are on a narrow road and another car is on a much wider road. You both arrive at the same time. Who must yield?
- The car on the wider road
- The slower car
- You, on the narrow road
- The smaller vehicle
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — You, on the narrow road
In Korea, at an intersection without traffic control, a driver on a road narrower than the crossing road must yield to vehicles entering from the wider road. Vehicle size or speed is not the criterion.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 26
-
68.At an intersection without traffic control, vehicles on two roads of equal width arrive at the same time. What is the yielding rule?
- Yield to the vehicle coming from the left
- Yield to the vehicle coming from the right
- Whoever honks first has priority
- Yield to the larger vehicle
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Yield to the vehicle coming from the right
In Korea, at an intersection without traffic control where the roads are of equal width, you must yield to vehicles entering from the road on your right. Neither the horn nor vehicle size decides priority.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 26
-
69.At an intersection without traffic control, you want to turn left while a car from the opposite direction is about to go straight. What should you do?
- Turn first because you signalled first
- Finish the turn faster than the oncoming car
- Sound the horn and go together
- Turn left after the straight-going car has passed
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Turn left after the straight-going car has passed
In Korea, at an intersection without traffic control, a vehicle turning left must yield to vehicles going straight or turning right. Signalling first does not give you priority.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 26
-
70.Which is the correct way to use a roundabout?
- Circulate clockwise
- Entering vehicles have priority over circulating vehicles
- Circulate counter-clockwise, and when entering, yield to vehicles already circulating
- Circulating vehicles must stop for entering vehicles
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Circulate counter-clockwise, and when entering, yield to vehicles already circulating
In Korea, traffic in a roundabout moves counter-clockwise. When entering, slow down or stop and yield to vehicles already circulating. Circulating vehicles have priority and do not have to stop for entering ones.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 25-2
-
71.A fire engine with siren and flashing lights is approaching from behind near an intersection. What should you do?
- Avoid the intersection and stop briefly
- Stop right in the middle of the intersection
- Accelerate to clear the intersection before the fire engine
- Keep driving in your lane as usual
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Avoid the intersection and stop briefly
In Korea, when an emergency vehicle approaches at or near an intersection, you must avoid the intersection and stop briefly. Stopping inside the intersection blocks its path.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 29
-
72.You are driving on a road with two lanes each way, away from any intersection, when an ambulance with lights and siren comes up behind. What should you do?
- Brake hard and stop immediately
- Speed up to stay ahead of it
- Just turn on the hazard lights in front of it
- Give way so the ambulance can pass first
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Give way so the ambulance can pass first
In Korea, when an emergency vehicle approaches away from an intersection, you must give way so it can pass first. Usually you move to the right lane or edge; braking hard can cause a rear-end collision.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 29
-
73.You plan to turn left at an intersection on an ordinary road. When should you start signalling?
- After entering the intersection
- From a point at least 30 metres before the edge of the intersection
- From a point 5 metres before the edge of the intersection
- After completing the turn
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — From a point at least 30 metres before the edge of the intersection
In Korea, when turning left or right you must start signalling at least 30 metres before reaching the edge of the intersection, and keep the signal on until the turn is complete so others know your intention in advance.
-
74.On an expressway, when should you start signalling before changing lanes?
- At the moment you change lanes
- 30 metres before the point of the lane change
- From a point at least 100 metres before the point of the lane change
- After finishing the lane change
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — From a point at least 100 metres before the point of the lane change
In Korea, on an expressway you must signal from at least 100 metres before the point where you intend to change course. The distance is longer than on ordinary roads (at least 30 metres) because higher speeds give following drivers less time to react.
-
75.You are about to cross a railway crossing with no signal. What is the correct way?
- Stop briefly before the crossing, check it is safe, then cross
- Cross slowly if no train is visible
- Speed up and cross quickly
- Follow the car ahead closely and cross together
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Stop briefly before the crossing, check it is safe, then cross
In Korea, you must make a brief full stop before a railway crossing and check it is safe before crossing. You may cross without stopping only when following a signal at the crossing. Following the car ahead too closely can leave you trapped on the tracks.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 24
-
76.At a railway crossing, the alarm has started ringing but the barrier is still up. What should you do?
- Cross quickly before the barrier comes down
- Cross if the train looks far away
- Cross slowly
- Stop and do not enter the crossing
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Stop and do not enter the crossing
In Korea, you must not enter a railway crossing when the barrier is down or about to come down, or when the alarm is sounding. A train's speed and distance are hard to judge by eye.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 24
-
77.In Korea, stopping and parking are prohibited within how many metres of the edge of an intersection or a road corner?
- 3 metres
- 5 metres
- 15 metres
- 20 metres
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — 5 metres
In Korea, it is prohibited to stop or park within 5 metres of the edge of an intersection or a road corner, because a car standing at the corner blocks the view of turning vehicles and pedestrians.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 32
-
78.In Korea, stopping and parking are prohibited within how many metres of a pedestrian crossing?
- 3 metres
- 5 metres
- 10 metres
- 30 metres
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — 10 metres
In Korea, it is prohibited to stop or park within 10 metres of the edge of a railway crossing or of a pedestrian crossing. A car stopped near a crosswalk hides pedestrians, especially small children, from other drivers.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 32
-
79.You want to stop your car briefly 5 metres from a bus-stop sign to drop someone off. Which statement is correct?
- You may not, because stopping and parking are banned within 10 metres of a bus-stop marker
- You may stop for up to five minutes
- You may stop if no bus is coming
- You may stop if you turn on the hazard lights
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — You may not, because stopping and parking are banned within 10 metres of a bus-stop marker
In Korea, stopping and parking are prohibited within 10 metres of a post, sign or line marking a bus stop (buses picking up or dropping off passengers during service hours are an exception). A private car may not stop there even briefly.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 32
-
80.Under Korea's Road Traffic Act, which describes 'stopping' (as distinct from parking)?
- The driver has left the vehicle and cannot drive it immediately
- The vehicle stays stopped because of a breakdown
- Leaving the vehicle stopped for up to 10 minutes
- Halting the vehicle for no more than five minutes, in a state other than parking
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Halting the vehicle for no more than five minutes, in a state other than parking
In Korea, 'stopping' means the driver halts the vehicle for no more than five minutes, in a state other than parking. Keeping the vehicle stationary continuously, or leaving it so that the driver cannot drive it immediately, counts as parking.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 2
-
81.What is the correct action when parking at the edge of a downhill slope?
- Leave it in neutral with the parking brake off
- Apply the parking brake and chock the wheels or turn them toward the road edge
- Turn the wheels toward the middle of the road
- Leave the engine running and step away briefly
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Apply the parking brake and chock the wheels or turn them toward the road edge
In Korea, when stopping or parking on a slope you must apply the parking brake and prevent rolling, for example by placing wheel chocks or turning the steering toward the edge of the road. Wheels turned toward the middle would send a rolling car into traffic.
-
82.You need to cross a sidewalk to enter a building's car park. What is the correct way?
- Sound the horn so pedestrians move aside
- Speed up to cross the sidewalk quickly
- Stop just before the sidewalk, look both ways, then cross without obstructing pedestrians
- Drive straight in; vehicles have priority even if pedestrians are there
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Stop just before the sidewalk, look both ways, then cross without obstructing pedestrians
In Korea, when crossing a sidewalk to enter or leave a place off the road, you must stop just before the sidewalk, check left and right, and cross without obstructing pedestrians. Pedestrians have priority on the sidewalk.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 13
-
83.Under Korea's Road Traffic Act, what does 'driving slowly' (seohaeng) mean?
- Moving at a speed slow enough that the driver can stop the vehicle immediately
- Driving at 10 km/h or less only
- Bringing the wheels to a complete stop, then moving off
- Driving at half the speed limit
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Moving at a speed slow enough that the driver can stop the vehicle immediately
In Korea, 'driving slowly' means proceeding at a speed slow enough that the driver can stop immediately; it is not defined by a specific number. Bringing the wheels to a complete stop is a 'brief stop'.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 2
-
84.Under Korea's Road Traffic Act, what does a 'brief stop' (ilsi jeongji) mean?
- Reducing speed below 10 km/h
- Tapping the brake once
- Leaving the car stopped for up to five minutes
- Bringing the vehicle's wheels to a complete stop momentarily
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Bringing the vehicle's wheels to a complete stop momentarily
In Korea, a 'brief stop' means the driver momentarily brings the wheels to a complete stop. Merely slowing down or tapping the brake does not count.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 2
-
85.The expressway is congested and traffic has nearly stopped. Which statement about using the shoulder is correct?
- You may drive on the shoulder if congestion is heavy
- You must not drive on the shoulder except for emergency vehicles, breakdowns or other unavoidable cases
- You may use the shoulder up to the next exit
- You may use the shoulder if your hazard lights are on
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — You must not drive on the shoulder except for emergency vehicles, breakdowns or other unavoidable cases
In Korea, the expressway shoulder is reserved for emergency vehicles and for stopping in a breakdown. Apart from emergency vehicles and unavoidable situations such as a breakdown, you must not drive on it. Driving on the shoulder in a jam blocks ambulances and tow trucks.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 60
-
86.What is the correct way to merge from an expressway on-ramp (acceleration lane) into the main lanes?
- Build up enough speed in the acceleration lane and merge without obstructing traffic on the main road
- Cut in straight away, expecting main-road traffic to make room
- Stop at the end of the acceleration lane, then merge slowly
- Dive into any gap without signalling
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Build up enough speed in the acceleration lane and merge without obstructing traffic on the main road
In Korea, a vehicle entering an expressway must not obstruct vehicles already travelling on it. Accelerate in the acceleration lane to match the flow, signal, and merge into a safe gap. Stopping at the end of the acceleration lane makes merging more dangerous.
-
87.On an expressway, you have just missed the exit you needed. What should you do?
- Reverse along the shoulder back to the exit
- Turn on the hazard lights and reverse on the main road
- Continue to the next exit and leave there
- Make a U-turn through a gap in the central reservation
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Continue to the next exit and leave there
In Korea, crossing, U-turns and reversing are prohibited on expressways. If you miss an exit, change your route at the next exit or a rest area. Reversing on an expressway carries a very high risk of a collision with fast traffic from behind.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 62
-
88.Choose the TWO places where the law requires drivers to proceed slowly.Choose 2
- Near a bend in the road
- A straight section with three lanes each way
- A flat section of an expressway main road
- Near the crest of a hill
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① ④ — Near a bend in the road / Near the crest of a hill
In Korea, drivers must proceed slowly at intersections without traffic control, near bends, near the crest of a hill and on steep downhill slopes, because visibility is limited or a sudden stop may be needed. Straight sections and flat expressway lanes are not designated slow-driving places.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 31
-
89.A 'safety zone' is marked on the road with traffic safety markings. What must drivers observe?
- In congestion, you may use it as a lane
- You must not enter it
- You may use it for brief stops
- You may enter it only to make a U-turn
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — You must not enter it
In Korea, a safety zone is a part of the road marked for the safety of pedestrians and traffic, and vehicles must not enter safety zones where entry is prohibited by signs or markings. If pedestrians are in or near it, pass slowly at a safe distance.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 13
-
90.In Korea, stopping and parking are prohibited within how many metres of a fire hydrant or other firefighting water facility?
- 1 metre
- 3 metres
- 10 metres
- 5 metres
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — 5 metres
In Korea, it is prohibited to stop or park within 5 metres of a firefighting water facility such as a hydrant, or an emergency fire-extinguishing device. Fire engines need immediate access to water in a fire, so do not stop there even briefly.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 32
-
91.While going around a roundabout, you passed the exit you wanted. What should you do?
- Stop where you are and reverse back to the exit
- Go clockwise, against the flow, back to the exit
- Go around the roundabout once more and leave at the exit you want
- Cut across the central island to the exit
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Go around the roundabout once more and leave at the exit you want
In Korea, if you miss your exit in a roundabout, simply go around counter-clockwise once more and leave at the exit you want. Stopping, reversing or going against the flow inside the roundabout risks a collision with following vehicles. Cutting across the central island is not allowed either.
-
92.At a roundabout entry, the car in front of you has its turn signal on and is about to enter. What should you, behind it, do?
- Wait without obstructing the car in front
- Pull up alongside and enter together
- Sound your horn to hurry it
- Overtake it and enter first
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Wait without obstructing the car in front
In Korea, when a vehicle signals by hand, turn signal or lights to use a roundabout, the vehicle behind must not obstruct it. Entering side by side or overtaking easily leads to collisions inside the roundabout. Honking to hurry it is also dangerous because it rushes the driver ahead.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 25-2
-
93.On an expressway with three lanes each way, which lane should a large truck use when driving normally without overtaking? (no special designation)
- Lane 1
- Lane 2
- Any lane
- Lane 3 (the right-hand lane)
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Lane 3 (the right-hand lane)
In Korea, on expressways with three or more lanes each way, lane 1 is for vehicles overtaking; the remaining lanes are split so the left side is for cars and small or medium vans, and the right side is for large buses, trucks, special vehicles and construction machinery. With three lanes, a large truck's lane is lane 3. Keeping heavy vehicles to the right reduces danger from speed differences.
-
94.You have finished overtaking in lane 1 of an expressway with two lanes each way. Traffic is flowing, so you can travel at 80 km/h or more. How should you drive afterward?
- Stay in lane 1 all the way to your destination
- Check it is safe and return to lane 2
- Move onto the shoulder and drive there
- Drive straddling lanes 1 and 2
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Check it is safe and return to lane 2
In Korea, lane 1 of a two-lane-each-way expressway is for vehicles overtaking. Unless congestion forces you below 80 km/h, you must return to lane 2 after overtaking. Staying in lane 1 violates lane designation rules and blocks others from overtaking.
-
95.A large truck in lane 3 of an expressway with three lanes each way wants to overtake a slow vehicle. Which lane may it use to overtake?
- Lane 1
- The shoulder
- Lane 2, the lane immediately to its left
- It may not overtake
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Lane 2, the lane immediately to its left
In Korea, when overtaking under the designated-lane rules, a vehicle may use the lane immediately to the left of its designated lane. A large truck whose lane is lane 3 overtakes using lane 2 and then returns to lane 3. Moving across to lane 1 or overtaking on the shoulder is not allowed.
-
96.On an ordinary road (not an expressway) with four lanes each way, which lanes should a motorcycle use? (no special designation)
- Lane 1
- Lane 1 or 2
- Any lane
- The right-hand lanes, lane 3 or 4
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — The right-hand lanes, lane 3 or 4
In Korea, on roads other than expressways, the lanes are split in half: the left lanes are for cars and small or medium vans, and the right lanes are for large buses, trucks, special vehicles, construction machinery, motorcycles and mopeds. With four lanes each way, lanes 1 and 2 are the left lanes and lanes 3 and 4 are the right lanes. Motorcycles must use the right lanes.
-
97.A 9-seat van-type passenger car is carrying three people, including the driver. May it use the expressway bus-only lane?
- Yes, because it has 9 or more seats, regardless of occupants
- No, it needs 6 or more people on board
- Yes, if there are 2 or more people including the driver
- Only on weekends
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — No, it needs 6 or more people on board
In Korea, passenger cars with 9 or more seats and vans with 12 or fewer seats may use the expressway bus-only lane only when 6 or more people are on board. Having 9 or more seats alone is not enough. With three people aboard, the car must use the regular lanes.
-
98.In which case may a vehicle travel in the center or left part of the road?
- When the road is one-way
- When the car ahead is frustratingly slow
- When the center line is solid yellow but there is no oncoming traffic
- When the right-turn lane is blocked
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — When the road is one-way
In Korea, vehicles in principle keep to the right of the center line, but on a one-way road they may use the center or left part of the road. Crossing a solid yellow center line just because the car ahead is slow or no one is coming is a center-line violation.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 13
-
99.On a narrow sloping road where two cars can barely pass, you meet an oncoming vehicle. Which vehicle must give way? (neither is an emergency vehicle)
- The vehicle going downhill
- The larger vehicle
- The vehicle going uphill
- The vehicle that honked first
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — The vehicle going uphill
In Korea, when vehicles meet head-on on a narrow sloping road, the vehicle going uphill must pull to the right edge and give way. This is because the vehicle going downhill finds it harder to stop and move off again. Vehicle size and honking are not the criteria.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 20
-
100.On a narrow road that is not sloping, a truck carrying people and cargo meets a car with no passengers and no cargo coming the other way. Which must give way? (neither is an emergency vehicle)
- The truck carrying people and cargo
- The car with no passengers and no cargo
- The vehicle that came from the wider part of the road
- The faster vehicle
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — The car with no passengers and no cargo
In Korea, on a narrow non-sloping road, when a vehicle carrying people or goods meets a vehicle with no passengers and no goods, the empty vehicle must pull to the right edge and give way. A loaded vehicle is harder to maneuver.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 20

101.On a road without marked lanes, a faster car is following you and you intend to keep driving slowly. What should you do? (neither is an emergency vehicle)
- Pull to the right edge of the road and let the car behind pass
- Drive in the middle of the road so it cannot overtake
- Brake suddenly to warn the car behind
- Speed up to race the car behind
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Pull to the right edge of the road and let the car behind pass
In Korea, a non-emergency vehicle that intends to travel more slowly than the vehicle following it must pull to the right edge of the road and give way (except on roads with designated lanes for traffic). Blocking the car behind or braking suddenly as a warning invites a crash.

102.Your light is green and you are about to enter the intersection, but an ambulance with flashing lights and siren is entering it from the crossing road. What should you do?
- Go through first, since your light is green
- Sound your horn to tell the ambulance you are going
- Follow right behind the ambulance through the intersection
- Do not enter; keep clear of the intersection and make a brief stop
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Do not enter; keep clear of the intersection and make a brief stop
In Korea, when an emergency vehicle approaches at or near an intersection, you must keep clear of the intersection and make a brief stop regardless of your signal. Emergency vehicles on an urgent call may, when unavoidable, not follow signals, so you must give way even on green. Tailgating the ambulance is also dangerous.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 29

103.While crossing a railway crossing, your car breaks down and cannot move inside the crossing. What is the correct action?
- Wait inside the car until a tow truck arrives
- Evacuate passengers at once, use the emergency signal device or otherwise notify railway staff or police, and take steps to move the car out of the crossing
- Keep trying to start the engine from inside the car
- Leave the car there without telling anyone
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Evacuate passengers at once, use the emergency signal device or otherwise notify railway staff or police, and take steps to move the car out of the crossing
In Korea, if your vehicle cannot be driven inside a railway crossing, you must immediately evacuate the passengers, notify railway staff or police by using the emergency signal device or other means, and take steps to move the vehicle out of the crossing. Staying inside the car carries a very high risk of being hit by a train.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 24
-
104.A railway crossing has its own signal installed, and it is now showing that you may proceed. Which is correct?
- You must always make a brief stop regardless of the signal
- Stop briefly inside the crossing to check for safety
- When following the signal, you may cross without stopping
- You may cross only after sounding the horn
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — When following the signal, you may cross without stopping
In Korea, at a railway crossing you must in principle make a brief stop just before it and check for safety, but when you are following the signal shown by a signal device you may cross without stopping. Stopping inside the crossing is actually dangerous.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 24

105.On a 'pedestrian-priority road' in a residential area with no separate sidewalk, a pedestrian is walking in the middle of the road. Which is correct?
- Pedestrians may use the whole width of the road, so drivers must keep a safe distance, drive slowly, and stop if needed
- Pedestrians must walk only at the edge, so use the horn to move them aside
- Vehicles have priority even on pedestrian-priority roads
- Pass the pedestrian quickly to save time
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Pedestrians may use the whole width of the road, so drivers must keep a safe distance, drive slowly, and stop if needed
In Korea, pedestrians may use the whole width of a pedestrian-priority road. Drivers passing pedestrians must keep a safe distance and drive slowly, and must make a brief stop when they would endanger or obstruct pedestrians. Honking to move them aside or passing quickly goes against the purpose of these roads.

106.Under Korea's Road Traffic Act, choose the TWO places where parking is prohibited.Choose 2
- A spot 10 m from the edge of an intersection
- Inside a tunnel
- On a bridge
- A spot 15 m from a crosswalk
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② ③ — Inside a tunnel / On a bridge
In Korea, parking is prohibited inside tunnels and on bridges. The no-stopping range is within 5 m of an intersection edge and within 10 m of a crosswalk, so spots 10 m and 15 m away are not prohibited for that reason alone (follow any other signs or conditions).
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 33
-
107.Within how many meters of the edge of a railway crossing are stopping and parking prohibited?
- 3 m
- 5 m
- 7 m
- 10 m
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — 10 m
In Korea, stopping and parking are both prohibited within 10 m of the edge of a railway crossing. Vehicles standing near a crossing block the view of trains and other vehicles and remove the space that vehicles leaving the crossing need. Crosswalks and bus stops are also 10 m; intersection edges and fire facilities are 5 m.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 32
-
108.A safety zone has been set up on the road. Within how many meters of each side of the safety zone are stopping and parking prohibited?
- 10 m
- 5 m
- 3 m
- They are not prohibited
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — 10 m
In Korea, on roads with a safety zone, stopping and parking are prohibited within 10 m of each side of the safety zone. Safety zones exist to protect pedestrians and vehicles, so cars standing around them block views and movement.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 32
-
109.Which of these vehicles stopped within 10 m of a bus stop sign is NOT violating the no-stopping rule?
- A car stopped for one minute to drop off a passenger
- A taxi stopped to wait for customers
- A route bus stopped at that stop during its service hours to pick up passengers
- A truck stopped to unload goods
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — A route bus stopped at that stop during its service hours to pick up passengers
In Korea, the area within 10 m of a bus stop marking is a no-stopping, no-parking area. The exception is a route bus driver stopping at a stop on the route during service hours to let passengers on or off. Cars, taxis and trucks are not exempt, even for a short time.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 32
-
110.Which of these cases of halting a car within 10 m of a crosswalk is NOT a no-stopping violation?
- Stopping for three minutes with hazard lights on to deliver a parcel
- Stopping as instructed by a police officer
- Stopping briefly to buy something at a convenience store
- Stopping briefly to let a passenger out
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Stopping as instructed by a police officer
In Korea, even in no-stopping areas you may halt your vehicle when complying with the law or orders under it, or with a police officer's instruction, or when making a brief stop to prevent danger. Hazard lights or a short duration are not exceptions.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 32
-
111.You want to stop on a road with no separation between sidewalk and roadway. Where does the law say you should stop?
- In the middle of the road
- Right up against the left edge of the road
- Right up against the right edge, leaving no gap
- At least 50 cm from the right edge toward the center
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — At least 50 cm from the right edge toward the center
In Korea, when stopping on a road with no separate sidewalk, you must leave at least 50 cm between the right edge of the road and your vehicle, toward the center. Pulling right up to the edge leaves no room for pedestrians. Stopping in the middle or on the left obstructs traffic.
-
112.On a road with a separate sidewalk, you want to stop briefly with your wheels up on the sidewalk to drop off a parcel. Which is correct?
- You may not, because stopping and parking are both prohibited on sidewalks
- You may stop on the sidewalk for up to five minutes
- You may stop on the sidewalk if your hazard lights are on
- It is fine if only two wheels are on it
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — You may not, because stopping and parking are both prohibited on sidewalks
In Korea, stopping and parking are both prohibited on the sidewalk of a road with separate sidewalks (except designated on-street parking and the like). A short time, hazard lights, or only some wheels on the sidewalk do not make it allowed. A car on the sidewalk forces pedestrians into the roadway.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 32
-
113.On a road with one lane each way, you want to overtake the car ahead, but another vehicle (a motorcycle) is riding alongside it on its left. What should you do?
- Overtake on the right of the car ahead
- Squeeze between the two vehicles to overtake
- Do not overtake; wait until they are no longer side by side
- Honk to make them move, then overtake
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Do not overtake; wait until they are no longer side by side
In Korea, you may not overtake the vehicle ahead while another vehicle is traveling alongside it on its left. Overtaking on the right or squeezing between them is prohibited or extremely dangerous. Honking to make them move aside is not the right approach either.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 22
-
114.You are approaching an uncontrolled intersection where buildings block your view to the left and right. What does the law require?
- Sound the horn and drive straight through
- Make a brief stop, check left and right, then proceed
- Speed up to get through quickly
- Just slow down while flashing your headlights
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Make a brief stop, check left and right, then proceed
In Korea, an intersection with no traffic control where you cannot see left and right, or where traffic is heavy, is a place where you must make a brief stop. Slowing down is not enough; bring the wheels to a complete stop and check both ways. A horn or headlights do not replace the stop.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 31
-
115.Ahead, roadworks reduce the road by one lane, so cars in two lanes must merge into one. What is the best way to merge?
- Cars in the ending lane stop suddenly at the end and wait for a chance
- Cars in the continuing lane tailgate so no one can cut in
- Speed to the very end of the ending lane and push in first
- Signal early, and let cars in both lanes match speed and take turns, merging one by one
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Signal early, and let cars in both lanes match speed and take turns, merging one by one
In Korea, where lanes merge it is smoothest and safest to signal early and have cars from both lanes match speed and merge alternately, one at a time. Stopping suddenly at the end or forcing your way in at speed raises the risk of rear-end collisions. Tailgating to deny a gap is also dangerous.

116.In Korea, what is the statutory maximum speed, in principle, on ordinary roads in residential, commercial and industrial areas (excluding routes specially designated by the provincial police)?
- 40 km/h
- 50 km/h
- 60 km/h
- 80 km/h
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — 50 km/h
In Korea, the maximum speed on ordinary roads in residential, commercial and industrial areas is in principle 50 km/h, and up to 60 km/h on routes or sections the provincial police designate for smooth traffic flow. This is the '50' in the 'Safe Speed 5030' policy. If signs show a different limit, follow the signs.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Article 19
-
117.In Korea, on an ordinary road with one lane each way outside residential, commercial and industrial areas, what is the statutory maximum speed (no speed limit sign)?
- 40 km/h
- 50 km/h
- 60 km/h
- 80 km/h
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — 60 km/h
In Korea, on ordinary roads outside residential, commercial and industrial areas, the statutory maximum is 60 km/h with one lane each way and 80 km/h with two or more lanes each way. If a speed limit sign is posted, follow it.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Article 19
-
118.In Korea, on an ordinary road with two or more lanes each way outside residential, commercial and industrial areas, what is the statutory maximum speed (no speed limit sign)?
- 50 km/h
- 60 km/h
- 70 km/h
- 80 km/h
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — 80 km/h
In Korea, the statutory maximum on ordinary roads with two or more lanes each way outside residential, commercial and industrial areas is 80 km/h. Under the same conditions with one lane each way, it is 60 km/h.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Article 19
-
119.In Korea, what are the statutory maximum and minimum speeds on a motorway-only road (automobile-only road, not an expressway), with no signs?
- Max 90 km/h, min 30 km/h
- Max 100 km/h, min 50 km/h
- Max 80 km/h, min 40 km/h
- Max 110 km/h, min 30 km/h
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Max 90 km/h, min 30 km/h
In Korea, the statutory maximum on an automobile-only road is 90 km/h and the minimum is 30 km/h. Note that, unlike expressways, the minimum is 30 km/h.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Article 19
-
120.In Korea, what are the statutory maximum and minimum speeds on an expressway with one lane each way (no signs)?
- Max 100 km/h, min 50 km/h
- Max 90 km/h, min 30 km/h
- Max 80 km/h, min 50 km/h
- Max 70 km/h, min 40 km/h
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Max 80 km/h, min 50 km/h
In Korea, on an expressway with one lane each way the statutory maximum is 80 km/h and the minimum is 50 km/h. Expressways with two or more lanes each way have a higher maximum, but the same 50 km/h minimum.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Article 19
-
121.In Korea, what is the statutory maximum speed for a passenger car on an expressway with two or more lanes each way (not a specially designated route, no signs)?
- 90 km/h
- 100 km/h
- 110 km/h
- 120 km/h
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — 100 km/h
In Korea, the statutory maximum for passenger cars on expressways with two or more lanes each way is 100 km/h, with a 50 km/h minimum. On specially designated and announced routes the limit can be set up to 120 km/h, so in practice check the posted speed limit signs.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Article 19
-
122.In Korea, on an expressway with two or more lanes each way, what is the statutory maximum speed for a truck with a load capacity over 1.5 tonnes (not a designated route, no signs)?
- 80 km/h
- 90 km/h
- 100 km/h
- 110 km/h
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — 80 km/h
In Korea, on expressways with two or more lanes each way, trucks with a load capacity over 1.5 tonnes, special vehicles, hazardous-material carriers and construction machinery are limited to 80 km/h. It is lower than for passenger cars (100 km/h) because heavier vehicles need longer to stop.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Article 19
-
123.In Korea, when the road is wet from rain (no variable speed limit sign), what speed reduction does the law require?
- 10% below the maximum speed
- 20% below the maximum speed
- 50% below the maximum speed
- No reduction is required
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — 20% below the maximum speed
In Korea, when the road is wet from rain or snow is less than 20 mm deep, you must drive at 20% below the maximum speed. In more dangerous conditions, such as heavy rain limiting visibility to within 100 metres or an icy road, reduce by 50%.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Article 19
-
124.Choose the TWO cases in which you must drive at 50% below the maximum speed (no variable speed limit sign).Choose 2
- The road is wet from rain
- The road surface is frozen
- Snow 20 mm or more deep has accumulated
- Snow less than 20 mm deep has accumulated
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② ③ — The road surface is frozen / Snow 20 mm or more deep has accumulated
In Korea, you must reduce the maximum speed by 50% when the road is frozen, when snow is 20 mm or more deep, or when heavy rain, snow or fog limits visibility to within 100 metres. A wet road or snow under 20 mm requires a 20% reduction.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Article 19
-
125.Dense fog limits visibility to within 100 metres. On an expressway with a 100 km/h maximum, at what speed does the law require you to drive (no variable speed limit sign)?
- Up to 90 km/h
- Up to 80 km/h
- Up to 70 km/h
- Up to 50 km/h
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Up to 50 km/h
In Korea, when heavy rain, snow or fog limits visibility to within 100 metres, you must reduce the maximum speed by 50%, so on a 100 km/h road the limit becomes 50 km/h. In fog, also leave more distance to the car ahead than usual.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Article 19
-
126.On a road with an 80 km/h maximum, the surface is wet from rain. What is the legal upper limit for your speed (no variable speed limit sign)?
- 72 km/h
- 70 km/h
- 64 km/h
- 40 km/h
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — 64 km/h
In Korea, a wet road requires a 20% reduction from the maximum speed, so the limit is 80 − 16 = 64 km/h. 40 km/h would be the result of a 50% reduction (ice, visibility within 100 metres, etc.).
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Article 19
-
127.On an expressway you see a fixed speed limit sign (100 km/h) and a variable speed limit sign (80 km/h). Which maximum speed must you follow?
- 80 km/h on the variable speed limit sign
- 100 km/h on the fixed sign
- 90 km/h, the average of the two
- Either, at the driver's discretion
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — 80 km/h on the variable speed limit sign
In Korea, when a maximum speed is set by a variable speed limit sign you must follow it, and it takes precedence over a different limit on other traffic signs. Variable signs reflect current conditions such as weather, crashes or roadworks.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Article 19
-
128.In Korea, what is the speed limit, in principle, on a road designated as a children's protection zone (school zone)?
- Up to 50 km/h
- Up to 40 km/h
- Up to 20 km/h
- Up to 30 km/h
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Up to 30 km/h
In Korea, speeds in children's protection zones can in principle be limited to 30 km/h, and most school zones operate at 30 km/h. Some sections or time periods have a different posted limit, so always check the signs.
-
129.Which correctly describes a vehicle's 'stopping distance'?
- The distance travelled from when the brakes start working until the car stops
- The sum of the reaction (thinking) distance and the braking distance
- The distance travelled from spotting a hazard until starting to press the brake pedal
- The distance between your car and the car ahead
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — The sum of the reaction (thinking) distance and the braking distance
Stopping distance is the reaction distance (travelled between noticing a hazard and pressing the brake) plus the braking distance (travelled from when the brakes act until the car stops). The first option describes braking distance; the third describes reaction distance.
-
130.What is the distance a car travels from the moment the driver notices a hazard until the brakes actually start working?
- Braking distance
- Stopping distance
- Reaction (thinking) distance
- Safe following distance
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Reaction (thinking) distance
The distance the car keeps travelling between noticing a hazard and the brakes taking effect is the reaction distance. It grows with higher speed and slower reactions. Adding the braking distance gives the stopping distance.
-
131.With the same car and road conditions, if you double your speed from 40 km/h to 80 km/h, what happens to the braking distance, roughly?
- It hardly changes
- It becomes about 1.5 times longer
- It becomes about twice as long
- It becomes about four times as long
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — It becomes about four times as long
Braking distance is roughly proportional to the square of speed, so doubling speed makes it about four times longer, while reaction distance, being proportional to speed, roughly doubles. This is why even a small increase in speed greatly lengthens the distance needed to stop.
-
132.When you drive while tired or drowsy, which part of the stopping distance becomes longer in particular?
- The reaction (thinking) distance
- Only the braking distance
- The distance due to tyre wear
- There is no effect
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — The reaction (thinking) distance
Fatigue, drowsiness and alcohol lengthen the time it takes to notice a hazard and press the brake, which increases the reaction distance. Braking distance depends mainly on speed, the road surface and the condition of the tyres and brakes.
-
133.Hydroplaning occurs when a film of water forms between the tyres and the road at speed in the rain, making steering and braking ineffective. Which statement is correct?
- It is more likely at lower speeds
- It is more likely with deeper tyre treads
- It is more likely at higher speeds and with worn tyres, so slow down in the rain
- Lowering tyre pressure prevents it
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — It is more likely at higher speeds and with worn tyres, so slow down in the rain
Hydroplaning is more likely at higher speeds, with shallower (more worn) treads and with under-inflated tyres. Prevent it by slowing down in the rain and keeping tyres in good condition at the correct pressure. If it happens, avoid sudden braking or steering.
-
134.What is the best way to drive down a long, steep downhill slope?
- Put the gear in neutral and keep pressing the foot brake
- Use a low gear for engine braking, with the foot brake as a supplement
- Turn off the engine and coast down
- Speed up to get down quickly
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Use a low gear for engine braking, with the foot brake as a supplement
Relying only on the foot brake on a long descent can overheat the brakes, causing brake fade or vapour lock (bubbles in the brake fluid). Use a low gear for engine braking and apply the foot brake intermittently as a supplement. Coasting in neutral or with the engine off is very dangerous.
-
135.How can you reduce the 'standing wave' phenomenon, in which a tyre deforms in ripples at high speed and may overheat and fail?
- Keep the tyres at the correct pressure and avoid speeding
- Lower the tyre pressure below normal
- Drive even faster to cool the tyres
- Use tyres without tread
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Keep the tyres at the correct pressure and avoid speeding
Standing waves occur at high speed, especially when tyres are under-inflated. Before long expressway trips, set the correct tyre pressure and avoid speeding.
-
136.What is the most appropriate way to drive safely through a bend?
- Brake hard inside the bend to slow down
- Speed up after entering the bend
- Hug the centre line and take a wide line
- Slow down sufficiently before entering, and keep a steady speed through the bend
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Slow down sufficiently before entering, and keep a steady speed through the bend
In a bend, centrifugal force pushes the car outward, so reduce speed on the straight before entering. Hard braking in the bend can cause a skid, and hugging the centre line risks hitting oncoming traffic.
-
137.Under Korea's Road Traffic Act, what is the standard for the 'safe distance' a driver must keep from the vehicle ahead?
- Always at least 10 metres
- The distance needed to avoid a collision if the vehicle ahead suddenly stops
- Far enough that you cannot read its number plate
- Two car lengths regardless of speed
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — The distance needed to avoid a collision if the vehicle ahead suddenly stops
In Korea, the law does not set a number; it requires enough distance to avoid a collision if the vehicle ahead suddenly stops. The faster you go or the more slippery the road, the more distance you need.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 19
-
138.On a road with an 80 km/h limit, you want to overtake a slow truck. Which statement about speed is correct?
- While overtaking you may exceed the limit by up to 20 km/h
- Speed limits do not apply while overtaking
- You must not exceed the maximum speed even while overtaking
- You must drive twice as fast as the vehicle ahead
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — You must not exceed the maximum speed even while overtaking
In Korea, there is no exception that lifts the speed limit while overtaking. If you cannot complete the manoeuvre within the limit, do not overtake.
-
139.With no congestion and nothing wrong with your car, you keep driving at 40 km/h on an expressway with two lanes each way. Which statement is correct?
- It may be a violation, as it is below the expressway minimum speed (50 km/h)
- It is desirable, since slower is always safer
- It is fine if you are in the first lane
- It is fine as long as the hazard lights are on
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — It may be a violation, as it is below the expressway minimum speed (50 km/h)
In Korea, the minimum speed on expressways with two or more lanes each way is 50 km/h. Driving below it without an unavoidable reason such as congestion or bad weather can be a violation, and the large speed difference raises the risk of being rear-ended.
Legal basis: Enforcement Rule of the Road Traffic Act, Article 19
-
140.You are driving through a school zone (30 km/h limit). There are no other cars ahead and no children in sight. How should you drive?
- Drive at ordinary road speeds since no children are around
- Ignore the limit outside school commuting hours
- Going slightly over 30 km/h is fine if you avoid enforcement
- Stay within 30 km/h and be ready for a child suddenly darting out
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Stay within 30 km/h and be ready for a child suddenly darting out
In Korea, the school-zone limit applies even when no children or other cars are visible. Children are small and often appear suddenly from between parked cars, so keep your speed down and watch your surroundings.
-
141.On a pedestrian-priority road, to what speed may the provincial police chief limit vehicles to protect pedestrians?
- Up to 10 km/h
- Up to 20 km/h
- Up to 40 km/h
- Up to 50 km/h
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Up to 20 km/h
In Korea, the provincial police chief may, where needed to protect pedestrians, limit vehicle speeds on a pedestrian-priority road to 20 km/h or less. Pedestrians can walk anywhere on these roads, so drive at a speed at which you can stop at any moment. Check the actual limit on the signs.
-
142.On expressway routes with two or more lanes each way that the Commissioner General of the Korean National Police Agency has specially designated and announced for smooth traffic, what is the legal maximum speed for cars? (no other signs)
- Up to 100 km/h
- Up to 110 km/h
- Up to 120 km/h
- Up to 130 km/h
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Up to 120 km/h
In Korea, on designated and announced routes or sections of expressways with two or more lanes each way, the maximum speed for cars and similar vehicles is 120 km/h or less (90 km/h or less for trucks over 1.5 tonnes of load capacity and the like). Distinguish this from the usual 100 km/h on such expressways; in practice, follow the posted speed limit signs.
-
143.On a road with a maximum speed of 60 km/h, about 10 mm of snow has accumulated. What is the legal upper speed limit? (no variable speed limit sign)
- 48 km/h
- 30 km/h
- 54 km/h
- 60 km/h
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — 48 km/h
In Korea, when less than 20 mm of snow has accumulated, you must drive at 20% below the maximum speed. Subtracting 12 km/h (20% of 60) gives 48 km/h. With 20 mm or more of snow, the reduction becomes 50%.
-
144.On a road with a maximum speed of 80 km/h, 30 mm of snow has accumulated. What is the legal upper speed limit? (no variable speed limit sign)
- 64 km/h
- 60 km/h
- 70 km/h
- 40 km/h
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — 40 km/h
In Korea, when 20 mm or more of snow has accumulated, you must drive at 50% below the maximum speed, so the limit is half of 80 km/h: 40 km/h. 64 km/h is the 20% reduction, which applies when there is less than 20 mm of snow.
-
145.A car traveling at 72 km/h covers about how many meters per second?
- About 7 m
- About 20 m
- About 36 m
- About 72 m
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — About 20 m
To convert km/h to meters per second, divide by 3.6. 72 / 3.6 = 20, so the car travels about 20 m each second. Remember that even a glance away of 1 to 2 seconds means tens of meters traveled.
-
146.A driver traveling at 90 km/h sees a hazard and takes 1 second to press the brake. About how far does the car travel during that second (the reaction distance)?
- About 9 m
- About 15 m
- About 25 m
- About 90 m
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — About 25 m
90 km/h is 90 / 3.6 = 25 m per second. So during the 1-second reaction, the car keeps going about 25 m. Braking distance is then added before the car stops, so higher speeds need a larger following gap.
-
147.Which of the following is NOT really a factor in 'braking distance' (the distance from when the brakes start working until the car stops)?
- Whether the road is wet or icy
- How worn the tires are
- The car's speed when braking
- How long the driver took to notice the hazard and press the brake
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — How long the driver took to notice the hazard and press the brake
Braking distance is the distance from when the brakes engage until the car stops, and it depends on speed, road surface, tire and brake condition, and vehicle weight. The time the driver takes to notice the hazard and press the brake affects reaction distance instead. The two together make up stopping distance.
-
148.If you take the same curve at 60 km/h instead of 30 km/h, twice as fast, roughly how does the centrifugal force pushing the car outward change?
- About 2 times
- About 4 times
- It does not change
- About half
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — About 4 times
Centrifugal force is proportional to the square of speed, so doubling the speed makes it about four times greater. That is why even slightly too much speed in a curve can push the car outward. It is why you must slow down enough before entering a curve.
-
149.You are driving on an unlit road at night with low beams on. What is the best basis for choosing your speed?
- Drive at a speed at which you can stop within the area your headlights illuminate
- Drive at the same speed as in daytime
- Go up to the maximum speed if the road is empty
- Follow closely, watching only the tail lights ahead
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Drive at a speed at which you can stop within the area your headlights illuminate
At night you can see obstacles only as far as your headlights reach. Driving at a speed that lets you stop within that range lets you avoid a pedestrian or obstacle that suddenly appears. Daytime speeds or tailgating are dangerous.
-
150.On a clear day you are about to enter a long tunnel on the expressway. Which is the best approach to speed?
- Speed up, since tunnels are mostly straight
- Brake hard once you are inside the entrance
- Slow down before the entrance, because your eyes need time to adjust when going from bright to dark
- Close the gap and follow the lights of the car ahead
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Slow down before the entrance, because your eyes need time to adjust when going from bright to dark
When you suddenly go from bright daylight into a dark tunnel, you cannot see well while your eyes adjust. So it is best to slow down and turn on your lights before reaching the entrance. Braking hard at the entrance or closing the gap raises the risk of a rear-end crash.
-
151.On a road other than an expressway, you use an ordinary car (not a tow truck) to tow a broken-down car weighing less than 2,000 kg gross, and your car weighs at least three times as much. What is the maximum speed?
- Up to 50 km/h
- Up to 60 km/h
- The road's legal maximum speed
- Up to 30 km/h
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Up to 30 km/h
In Korea, when a vehicle that is not a tow truck tows another vehicle on a road other than an expressway, towing a vehicle under 2,000 kg gross with a vehicle at least three times heavier limits you to 30 km/h. In other cases, and when a motorcycle tows, the limit is 25 km/h. Braking and steering are harder than usual when towing.
-
152.Which statement about speed and the driver's field of vision is correct?
- As speed rises, the field of vision narrows and nearby things become harder to see
- As speed rises, the field of vision widens
- Speed and vision are unrelated
- As speed rises, nearby things become easier to see
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — As speed rises, the field of vision narrows and nearby things become harder to see
As speed increases, the driver's gaze fixes farther ahead and the field of vision narrows, so it is easy to miss nearby hazards or ones approaching from the side. That is why awareness of surroundings lags at high speed. Slowing down widens your view and gives you more time to react.
-
153.When driving at 100 km/h on a dry expressway, what is the commonly recommended guideline for the gap to the car ahead?
- About 30 m
- About 100 m (the speed number converted to meters)
- About 10 m
- Any distance, as long as you can see the car ahead
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — About 100 m (the speed number converted to meters)
In Korea, a common guideline on expressways is to keep a gap in meters equal to your speed in km/h, so about 100 m at 100 km/h. On roads slippery from rain or snow, widen it further. 30 m or 10 m is too little to avoid the car ahead if it stops suddenly at high speed.
-
154.When local authorities limit vehicle speed in a designated senior protection zone, what is the standard?
- Up to 50 km/h
- Up to 60 km/h
- Up to 30 km/h
- Up to 10 km/h
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Up to 30 km/h
In Korea, local authorities may limit vehicle speed in a senior protection zone to 30 km/h or less to protect older people. Older pedestrians walk slowly and may notice cars late, so keep to the posted limit and drive slowly. Check the actual limit on the signs.
-
155.Suppose you drive 100 km at a constant speed. How much time do you save by going 120 km/h instead of 100 km/h?
- About 10 minutes
- About 20 minutes
- About 30 minutes
- About 1 hour
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — About 10 minutes
At 100 km/h, 100 km takes 60 minutes; at 120 km/h it takes 50 minutes, so you save about 10 minutes. On real roads, lights and congestion shrink the gain further. Speeding saves less time than people think, while stopping distance and crash risk grow a lot.

156.At a crosswalk without traffic lights, a pedestrian is standing, about to cross. What should the driver do?
- Drive on, since the pedestrian has not started crossing
- Sound the horn to signal that you are passing
- Stop before the crosswalk
- Speed up to pass before the pedestrian starts crossing
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Stop before the crosswalk
In Korea, drivers must stop before a crosswalk (before the stop line if there is one) not only when pedestrians are crossing but also when they are about to cross. If a pedestrian shows the intention to cross, stop first and let them go.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 27
-
157.You are approaching a crosswalk without traffic lights inside a school zone. No pedestrians are visible. What should you do?
- Stop before the crosswalk whether or not pedestrians are present
- Pass slowly since no one is there
- Keep 30 km/h and drive through
- Sound the horn and pass
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Stop before the crosswalk whether or not pedestrians are present
In Korea, at a crosswalk without traffic lights inside a children's protection zone, drivers must stop before it whether or not anyone is crossing. Small children can be hidden behind parked cars or street furniture.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 27
-
158.On a road with two lanes each way, a children's school bus has stopped in the second lane with its flashing lights on and is letting children off. You are in the first lane. What should you do?
- Keep your speed, since you are in the first lane
- Stop before reaching the bus, check for safety, then pass slowly
- Pass slowly while sounding the horn
- Overtake the bus quickly
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Stop before reaching the bus, check for safety, then pass slowly
In Korea, when a children's school bus has stopped with lights flashing to show children are getting on or off, vehicles in the bus's lane and the lane right next to it must stop before reaching it, check for safety, then pass slowly. Children may suddenly run out in front of or behind the bus.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 51
-
159.On a road with one lane each way and a centre line, a children's school bus in the opposite lane has stopped with its flashing lights on and is picking up children. You are travelling in the other direction. What should you do?
- Drive on, since it is in the opposite direction
- Move toward the centre line and pass quickly
- Sound the horn to warn the children
- Stop before reaching the bus, check for safety, then pass slowly
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Stop before reaching the bus, check for safety, then pass slowly
In Korea, on roads without a centre line and on roads with one lane each way, drivers coming from the opposite direction must also stop before reaching a stopped school bus, check for safety and then pass slowly, because children may cross the road toward your side.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 51
-
160.A children's school bus displaying that it is carrying children is driving slowly ahead of you. What should you do?
- Overtake in the left lane if it is safe
- Overtake if the centre line is dashed
- Do not overtake; follow behind it
- Sound the horn to ask it to move over
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Do not overtake; follow behind it
In Korea, no driver may overtake a children's school bus that is on the road displaying that it is carrying children or infants. It may stop suddenly to let children off, so follow at a sufficient distance.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 51
-
161.A visually impaired person with a white cane is crossing a road where there is no crosswalk. What should the driver do?
- Stop and let them cross safely
- Sound the horn, since it is not a crosswalk
- Drive quickly around behind them
- Swerve into the next lane without slowing down
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Stop and let them cross safely
In Korea, when a person who cannot see is crossing the road with a white cane or a guide dog, drivers must stop, whether or not there is a crosswalk. A horn can disorient the person.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 49
-
162.After rain, pedestrians are walking on the sidewalk next to a road with standing water. How should you drive?
- Driving fast splashes less water
- Sound the horn so pedestrians move away
- Drive through the middle of the puddle
- Slow down so that water does not splash the pedestrians
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Slow down so that water does not splash the pedestrians
In Korea, when driving through standing water, drivers must not splash others and cause them harm. The faster you go, the farther water sprays, so slow down early and avoid the puddle if you can.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 49
-
163.In Korea, when may a driver use a mobile phone held in the hand?
- When driving slowly at 20 km/h or less
- When the vehicle is stationary
- When checking a short text message
- When driving on a quiet road
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — When the vehicle is stationary
In Korea, using a mobile phone while driving is prohibited, with exceptions such as when the vehicle is stationary, when driving an emergency vehicle, in urgent cases like reporting a crime or disaster, and when using a hands-free device. Driving slowly or being on a quiet road does not make it allowed.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 49
-
164.You are about to drive with your 4-year-old child in your car. Which method meets the law?
- Install a child restraint (car seat), seat the child in it and fasten the seat belt
- An adult holds the child and both wear one belt
- For short trips, seat the child in the back without a belt
- Seat the child in the front passenger seat with just the adult belt
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Install a child restraint (car seat), seat the child in it and fasten the seat belt
In Korea, when carrying infants and young children (under 6), the driver must have them wear the seat belt with a child restraint installed. A child held in an adult's arms cannot be held in a crash, and an adult belt alone does not fit a small child and can cause injury.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 50
-
165.Which statement about the duty to wear seat belts is correct?
- All seats must wear them only on expressways
- Only the driver and front passenger need to
- Occupants of every seat must wear them on all roads, including ordinary roads
- Rear-seat passengers need not wear them on city roads
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Occupants of every seat must wear them on all roads, including ordinary roads
In Korea, since September 2018 the driver and passengers in every seat must wear seat belts on all roads, including ordinary roads, and the driver must make passengers wear them too. An unbelted rear passenger can be thrown forward in a crash, seriously injuring themselves and those in front.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 50

166.The driver is getting out briefly to go into a convenience store. What is the correct action?
- Leave the engine running, since you'll be right back
- Turn off the engine and apply the brakes firmly so the car cannot move
- Put it in neutral and get out
- Just lock the doors
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Turn off the engine and apply the brakes firmly so the car cannot move
In Korea, when leaving the driver's seat, the driver must turn off the engine and firmly apply the brakes to keep the vehicle safely stationary, and take steps so no one else can drive it. Leaving the engine running risks the car moving or being stolen.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 49
-
167.After stopping at the roadside, you want to open the driver's door and get out. What is the safest way?
- Open the door quickly and get out fast
- Open it if no car behind sounds its horn
- Open the door wide to show traffic behind that you are getting out
- Check the side mirror and look back directly, then open when no car, bicycle or motorcycle is coming
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Check the side mirror and look back directly, then open when no car, bicycle or motorcycle is coming
In Korea, drivers must not open a door or get out without checking it is safe, and must make sure passengers do not create a hazard either. Bicycles and motorcycles approaching from behind may not show clearly in mirrors, so turn your head to check and open the door slowly.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 49
-
168.When a large truck turns right at an intersection, which caution is correct?
- The rear wheels track inside the front wheels (off-tracking), so pedestrians and motorcycles on the truck's right are in danger
- The rear wheels track outside the front wheels, so only the left side matters
- Large vehicles have no blind spots
- When turning right, it only matters that the front wheels do not mount the sidewalk
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — The rear wheels track inside the front wheels (off-tracking), so pedestrians and motorcycles on the truck's right are in danger
When a vehicle turns, its rear wheels follow a tighter path than the front wheels, and this off-tracking is greater for long vehicles. So when a large vehicle turns right, pedestrians, cyclists or motorcyclists on its right can be caught by the rear wheels. Keep well clear of large vehicles as they turn.
-
169.At night, you are dazzled by the headlights of an oncoming car. What should you do?
- Look straight into the headlights
- Switch on your high beams in return
- Shift your gaze slightly toward the right edge of the road
- Close your eyes briefly while driving
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Shift your gaze slightly toward the right edge of the road
Looking straight at oncoming headlights can blind you for a moment. Shift your gaze slightly to the right edge of the road to keep your lane, and slow down. Flashing your high beams back dazzles the other driver too and makes things more dangerous.
-
170.At night, where the light from your headlights and those of an oncoming car overlap, a pedestrian between them can momentarily disappear from view. What is this phenomenon called?
- Hydroplaning
- The evaporation (vanishing) phenomenon
- Vapour lock
- Standing waves
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — The evaporation (vanishing) phenomenon
The 'evaporation phenomenon' is when a pedestrian or object seems to vanish in the overlapping glare of your headlights and an oncoming car's. When cars are coming at night, slow down and watch especially for pedestrians near the middle of the road.
-
171.Driving at night with high beams on, you see a car approaching from the opposite direction. What is the correct use of lights?
- Keep the high beams on
- Flash the high beams several times
- Add the fog lights to make it even brighter
- Reduce the headlight intensity (switch to low beams)
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Reduce the headlight intensity (switch to low beams)
In Korea, when vehicles meet at night, drivers must avoid dazzling each other, for example by dimming the headlights or pointing them downward. The same applies when following closely behind another vehicle. Keeping or flashing high beams dazzles the other driver and is dangerous.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 37
-
172.What is the correct way to drive on a road in dense fog?
- Use low beams and fog lights, slow down and increase the distance to the car ahead
- Use high beams to light up farther ahead
- Follow closely, watching only the tail lights ahead
- Speed up to get out of the fog quickly
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Use low beams and fog lights, slow down and increase the distance to the car ahead
In fog, high beams reflect off the water droplets and actually reduce visibility. Turn on low beams and fog lights so others can see you, slow down, and leave more distance to the car ahead than usual.
-
173.Choose the TWO places where thin, nearly invisible ice (black ice) easily forms in winter even when the road looks clear.Choose 2
- On bridges
- A sunny, flat road
- Inside an underground car park
- A shaded road around a mountain bend
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① ④ — On bridges / A shaded road around a mountain bend
On bridges, cold air flows beneath the deck, so the surface cools quickly, and shaded areas get no sun to melt ice. Tunnel entrances and exits are also prone to black ice, so slow down in advance there and avoid sudden braking or steering.
-
174.You want to pass a bicycle travelling in the same direction. What is the correct way?
- Give a long blast of the horn so it moves onto the shoulder
- Leave enough distance to avoid a collision and slow down if necessary as you pass
- Pass quickly right alongside it
- Tailgate it to pressure the rider
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Leave enough distance to avoid a collision and slow down if necessary as you pass
In Korea, drivers must pay attention to cyclists going in the same direction and, when passing, keep the distance needed to avoid a collision. Bicycles may wobble suddenly because of the road surface or wind. If there is not enough room, wait before passing.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 19
-
175.In a narrow alley with no separate sidewalk and no lanes, a pedestrian is walking ahead of you. What should you do?
- Sound the horn so the pedestrian moves aside
- Pass beside the pedestrian without slowing
- Pass slowly at a safe distance, and stop if you would obstruct them
- Follow closely behind the pedestrian
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Pass slowly at a safe distance, and stop if you would obstruct them
In Korea, on narrow roads without lanes or roads with no separate sidewalk, drivers passing pedestrians must keep a safe distance and drive slowly, and stop if they might obstruct the pedestrian. In alleys, drive as if pedestrians have priority.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 27
-
176.On a residential street, you see several children playing on the road with no adult present. What should you do?
- Stop and make sure the children are safe
- Sound the horn to make them move
- Drive slowly between the children
- Keep your speed and swerve into the opposite lane
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Stop and make sure the children are safe
In Korea, when a driver sees children crossing without a guardian, or sitting, standing or playing on the road, or otherwise at risk of a traffic accident, the driver must stop. Children move unpredictably, so drive very slowly when you do pass.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 49
-
177.After driving on the expressway for a long time, you start to feel drowsy. What is the safest response?
- Open the window, turn the music up and keep going
- Speed up to reach your destination sooner
- Stop briefly on the shoulder and sleep
- Pull into the nearest rest area or drowsiness shelter and rest
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Pull into the nearest rest area or drowsiness shelter and rest
Opening a window or playing music helps only briefly and does not solve drowsiness, so rest at a rest area or a roadside drowsiness shelter. In Korea, you may not stop on the expressway shoulder except in unavoidable cases such as a breakdown, and the risk of being rear-ended there is very high.
-
178.Driving on a residential street, you see a ball roll out from between parked cars. What is the most appropriate response?
- Just avoid the ball and drive on
- Slow down at once and be ready to stop, since a child may run out after the ball
- Sound the horn and pass
- It's fine to drive over the ball
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Slow down at once and be ready to stop, since a child may run out after the ball
A ball rolling into the road is often followed by a child chasing it. Rather than just steering around the ball, slow down immediately and be ready to stop; anticipating hazards like this is the essence of defensive driving.
-
179.When entering a tunnel in the daytime, which statement about lights is correct?
- It's daytime, so lights are not needed
- Turning on the hazard lights is enough
- You must turn on lights such as headlights, side lights and tail lights
- You must use high beams
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — You must turn on lights such as headlights, side lights and tail lights
In Korea, when driving in a tunnel you must turn on the required lights, such as headlights, side lights and tail lights, even in daytime. It is dark inside, making you hard to see, and your eyes need time to adjust when entering from bright daylight, so also slow down before entering.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 37
-
180.Which driving habit is closest to defensive driving?
- Watching not just the car ahead but traffic beyond it, and keeping a sufficient distance
- Closing the gap to the car ahead so no one can cut in
- Proceeding on the belief that others will yield when you have priority
- Sounding the horn first when you sense danger and carrying on
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Watching not just the car ahead but traffic beyond it, and keeping a sufficient distance
Defensive driving means anticipating even other drivers' and pedestrians' mistakes and preparing in advance. Watching beyond the car ahead and keeping ample distance gives you time to react to sudden situations. Relying only on your right of way or closing gaps increases the risk of a crash.
-
181.At night you approach a crosswalk without signals, and a pedestrian in dark clothes is just about to step off the curb to cross. What should you do?
- Drive on, since the pedestrian has not yet stepped into the road
- Make a brief stop before the crosswalk and let the pedestrian cross
- Flash your high beams to signal them to wait, then drive on
- Pass slowly while sounding the horn
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Make a brief stop before the crosswalk and let the pedestrian cross
In Korea, drivers must make a brief stop before a crosswalk not only when pedestrians are crossing but also when they are about to cross. Pedestrians in dark clothes are hard to see at night, so slow down early as you approach crosswalks. Using high beams or the horn to make them wait goes against the duty to protect pedestrians.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 27
-
182.You are in lane 2 of a two-lane-each-way road, and a car in lane 1 has stopped before a crosswalk without signals. What should you do?
- Keep your speed, since your lane is clear
- Pass quickly while sounding the horn
- Overtake the stopped car and cross the crosswalk first
- Slow down, make a brief stop before the crosswalk, and check for pedestrians hidden by the stopped car
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Slow down, make a brief stop before the crosswalk, and check for pedestrians hidden by the stopped car
If a car in the next lane has stopped before a crosswalk, there is a good chance a pedestrian hidden from your view by that car is crossing. Slow down, make a brief stop before the crosswalk and check for pedestrians. Driving on risks hitting a pedestrian who suddenly appears.
-
183.A pedestrian is crossing a road where there is no crosswalk. What should the driver do?
- Keep a safe distance, make a brief stop and let the pedestrian cross safely
- Sound the horn and drive on, since it is not a crosswalk
- Swing quickly around behind the pedestrian
- Speed up to pass before the pedestrian
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Keep a safe distance, make a brief stop and let the pedestrian cross safely
In Korea, even when a pedestrian is crossing a road without a crosswalk, drivers must keep a safe distance and make a brief stop so the pedestrian can cross safely. Pedestrian safety comes first even when they are jaywalking. Going around behind them or trying to pass first can lead to a collision if the pedestrian stops or turns back.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 27
-
184.Right at the exit of a roundabout there is a crosswalk without signals, and a pedestrian is crossing. What should you do?
- Leave the roundabout as usual, since circulating vehicles have priority
- Pass quickly in front of the pedestrian to keep traffic flowing
- Make a brief stop before the crosswalk and wait for the pedestrian to cross
- Stop inside the roundabout and wait until the pedestrian has crossed
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Make a brief stop before the crosswalk and wait for the pedestrian to cross
In Korea, roundabout entries and exits often have crosswalks, and you must make a brief stop before a crosswalk when a pedestrian is using it. Priority in a roundabout concerns entering versus circulating vehicles; it does not put vehicles ahead of pedestrians. If you slow down before the exit, you can stop at the crosswalk without halting inside the roundabout.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 27
-
185.You are turning left on a green left-turn arrow, but a pedestrian who started late is still on the crosswalk of the road you are turning into. What should you do?
- Pass quickly in front of the pedestrian before the arrow ends
- Stop before the crosswalk and wait until the pedestrian has finished crossing
- Sound the horn to hurry the pedestrian
- Swing wide around behind the pedestrian
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Stop before the crosswalk and wait until the pedestrian has finished crossing
Even with a left-turn arrow, protecting a pedestrian still on the crosswalk ahead comes first. Stop before the crosswalk and proceed only after the pedestrian has finished crossing. Older people and children are sometimes still on the crosswalk after the signal changes.
-
186.A children's school bus driver has let children off at a stop. What must the driver do before moving off?
- Confirm that the children have reached a place safe from vehicles, such as the sidewalk or road edge
- Move off as soon as the children are out of the bus
- Sound the horn to make the children move away quickly
- Turn off the flashing lights and leave at once
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Confirm that the children have reached a place safe from vehicles, such as the sidewalk or road edge
In Korea, a children's school bus driver must confirm that children getting off have reached a place safe from vehicles, such as the sidewalk or road-edge area, before moving off. Children who have just got off may be in front of or right beside the bus, so leaving without checking is very dangerous.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 53
-
187.A children's school bus driver has finished all runs for the day. Which is a duty set by law for the driver?
- Check only the fuel, then lock the bus right away
- Check inside the bus before setting off the next morning
- Phone parents to ask whether their child got off
- Check that no child has been left on the bus
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Check that no child has been left on the bus
In Korea, after finishing a run, a children's school bus driver must check inside the vehicle that all children and infants have got off, and must operate the drop-off confirmation device for this purpose. A sleeping child left inside can be in mortal danger. Checking the next day or phoning parents does not replace this duty.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 53
-
188.On a hot summer day you are driving with a child and want to stop at a convenience store briefly. The child is asleep in the car. What is the best action?
- Leave the window slightly open and leave the child in the car
- Do not leave the child alone in the car even briefly; take the child with you
- Leave the engine running with the air conditioning on and leave the child
- If you park in the shade, 30 minutes is fine
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Do not leave the child alone in the car even briefly; take the child with you
A closed car in summer heats up quickly even in a short time and is very dangerous for children. Opening the window slightly or parking in the shade is not enough. Leaving the car with the engine running also goes against a driver's duties and is dangerous, so take the child with you.
-
189.You want to reverse out of a parking spot in a residential area. A child could be behind the car. What is the safest method?
- Reverse quickly watching only the rear camera
- Honk once and reverse right away
- Walk around and check behind the car before starting, and reverse slowly while looking back directly in addition to using the camera and mirrors
- Reverse watching only the side mirrors
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Walk around and check behind the car before starting, and reverse slowly while looking back directly in addition to using the camera and mirrors
A small child right behind the car is hard to see from the driver's seat, and cameras and sensors also have blind spots. Check around the car in person before moving off, and when reversing, move slowly while turning to look directly as well as using the camera and mirrors. Honking and moving straight away is not a check.
-
190.You are passing through a senior protection zone, and an older person with a cane is slowly crossing a crosswalk without signals. Cars are waiting behind you. What should you do?
- Pass slowly in front of the person for the sake of the cars behind
- Sound a short horn to hurry them
- Go once they are halfway across
- Wait before the crosswalk until the person has completely crossed
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Wait before the crosswalk until the person has completely crossed
Older people walk slowly and may suddenly stop or change direction. You must stop when a pedestrian is using a crosswalk, so wait until the person has fully crossed even if cars are waiting behind you. Honking to hurry them can startle them into falling.
-
191.Under Korea's Road Traffic Act, what counts as 'night', when vehicles on the road must turn on headlights, width lights and tail lights?
- From sunset until sunrise
- From 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- While the street lights are on
- From when the driver feels it is dark until midnight
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — From sunset until sunrise
In Korea, vehicles must turn on lights such as headlights, width lights and tail lights when traveling at night, defined as from sunset until sunrise. The clock time or whether street lights are on is not the standard. At dusk, it is good to turn them on early so others can see you.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act, Article 37
-
192.At night you want to stop briefly at the edge of a road with no street lights. Which lights should you turn on?
- No lights are needed
- Only the interior light
- The tail lights and width lights
- The high-beam headlights
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — The tail lights and width lights
In Korea, when a car is stopped or parked on the road at night, it must have its tail lights and width lights on. That lets approaching drivers notice your stationary car. High beams dazzle oncoming drivers, and the interior light does not show your car's position from outside.
-
193.At night you are following right behind another car. Which use of headlights is correct?
- Keep high beams on to see the car ahead clearly
- Aim your headlights downward and do not change their brightness carelessly in a way that disturbs the driver ahead
- Flash your high beams repeatedly to hurry a slow car ahead
- Turn off your headlights and follow its tail lights
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Aim your headlights downward and do not change their brightness carelessly in a way that disturbs the driver ahead
In Korea, when following right behind another vehicle at night, you must aim your headlights downward and must not carelessly change their brightness in a way that disturbs the driver ahead. High beams reflect in the front driver's mirrors and cause glare. Driving with headlights off breaks the lighting rules.

194.You are tailgating a large truck. What is the main danger of driving this way?
- The truck blocks your view ahead, and the truck driver can hardly see you in the mirrors
- Less air resistance makes it safer
- There is no danger, because the truck can easily see you
- Trucks never brake suddenly, so no gap is needed
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — The truck blocks your view ahead, and the truck driver can hardly see you in the mirrors
Right behind a large vehicle, its body hides congestion or obstacles ahead, and the driver cannot see you well in the mirrors. You also have no room to avoid falling cargo. Keep a generous gap to secure your view and let the truck driver see you.
-
195.You want to change lanes into the space right in front of a large truck in the next lane. What is the best judgment?
- Large vehicles react quickly, so cutting in right in front is fine
- Turn on your signal and cut in sharply at the same moment
- Cut in front of the truck, then slow down right away to open a gap
- Large trucks are heavy and need longer to stop, so change lanes only with plenty of room ahead of them and never force your way in
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Large trucks are heavy and need longer to stop, so change lanes only with plenty of room ahead of them and never force your way in
Large trucks are heavy, so they need a longer distance to stop than cars. If you cut in right in front of one, or slow down after cutting in, the truck may not stop in time and hit you. Change lanes only when there is plenty of space ahead of it, and signal in advance.
-
196.Choose the TWO good driving practices for a long tunnel.Choose 2
- Take off sunglasses before entering the tunnel
- Change lanes often inside the tunnel to get out faster
- Keep a good distance from the car ahead and avoid changing lanes where possible
- Follow closely so you can see the tail lights ahead clearly
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① ③ — Take off sunglasses before entering the tunnel / Keep a good distance from the car ahead and avoid changing lanes where possible
Tunnels are darker than outside, so it is best to remove sunglasses before entering so you can see clearly. Space is tight and evacuation is hard if a crash happens, so keep a good distance from the car ahead and avoid lane changes where possible (they are prohibited where a no-lane-change line is marked). Tailgating or frequent lane changes raise the risk of a crash.
-
197.On a residential street you see ahead a crosswalk built higher than the road (a raised crosswalk). How should you drive?
- Go over it without slowing
- Slow down well in advance and pass while watching for pedestrians
- Brake hard just before it
- Go around it via the opposite lane
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Slow down well in advance and pass while watching for pedestrians
A raised crosswalk is built higher than the road to slow traffic where there are many pedestrians. Slow down in advance and stop if a pedestrian is about to cross. Going over it at speed makes the car jolt dangerously, and braking hard at the last moment or detouring into the opposite lane is also dangerous.
-
198.On a very rainy day, pedestrians holding umbrellas low are walking along the roadside. What should the driver especially watch for?
- Drive as usual, since pedestrians can see the car well
- Honking in advance is enough
- Umbrellas may block pedestrians' view so they do not see you and step into the road suddenly, so slow down
- Pass close to the pedestrians to keep away from the opposite lane
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Umbrellas may block pedestrians' view so they do not see you and step into the road suddenly, so slow down
On rainy days, umbrellas block pedestrians' view and the sound of rain makes it hard to hear cars. They may step into the road suddenly or move to avoid puddles, so slow down and keep your distance. The horn alone cannot ensure safety.
-
199.An older person is slowly crossing the crosswalk ahead, so you cannot move off even though the light has changed. Which driver action is NOT appropriate?
- Wait until the pedestrian has finished crossing
- Look around and get ready to move off
- Move off slowly after the pedestrian has crossed
- Sound the horn repeatedly to hurry the pedestrian
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Sound the horn repeatedly to hurry the pedestrian
In Korea, sounding the horn repeatedly or continuously without good reason is something drivers must not do. Hurrying a pedestrian can startle them and lead to a fall or other accident. Even after the light changes, wait until the pedestrian has finished crossing.

200.A pet dog is anxious, so the driver wants to drive with it held on their lap. Which is correct?
- It is fine for a small dog
- Driving while holding an animal may impair safety and must not be done
- It is fine if you drive slowly
- It is fine if the window is open
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Driving while holding an animal may impair safety and must not be done
In Korea, drivers must not drive in a state that may impair safety, such as holding an infant or an animal. A sudden movement by the animal can interfere with steering or pedals, and in a crash it can be badly hurt by the airbag and other forces. It is safer to carry pets in a carrier or a dedicated restraint.

201.In Korea, what is the minimum blood alcohol concentration (BAC) at which a driver's license is suspended for drunk driving?
- 0.01% or higher
- 0.03% or higher
- 0.05% or higher
- 0.08% or higher
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — 0.03% or higher
A BAC of 0.03% or higher counts as drunk driving and leads to license suspension. 0.05% was the old threshold before 2019, and 0.08% or higher is the revocation threshold.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 44
-
202.In Korea, a driver is stopped at a sobriety checkpoint for the first time, with no accident, and has a BAC of 0.09%. What administrative action is taken against the license?
- Only a warning, no action
- Only penalty points; the license is kept
- The license is revoked
- The license is suspended
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — The license is revoked
A BAC of 0.08% or higher is the revocation threshold regardless of whether there was an accident or a prior offense. Suspension applies when the BAC is 0.03% or more but below 0.08%.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 44
-
203.In Korea, a police officer has reasonable grounds to believe a driver has been drinking and requests a breath test, but the driver refuses without a valid reason. Which statement is correct?
- Without a test result, the driver cannot be punished
- Paying a minor fine settles the matter
- The refusal itself is a criminal offense and grounds for license revocation
- The driver may test himself the next day and submit the result
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — The refusal itself is a criminal offense and grounds for license revocation
Drivers must comply with a police alcohol test, and refusing without a valid reason is itself punishable and leads to license revocation. The idea that avoiding the test helps the driver is wrong.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 44
-
204.In Korea, a driver disputes the alcohol reading from a breath analyzer. Which statement is correct?
- With the driver's consent, alcohol can be measured again by a method such as a blood test
- Disputing it automatically voids the result
- Refusing a second test erases the first result
- Disputes are not allowed and there is no other method
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — With the driver's consent, alcohol can be measured again by a method such as a blood test
A driver who disputes a breath test result can, with consent, be tested again by methods such as a blood sample. Disputing the result does not automatically void it.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 44
-
205.In Korea, a driver who drank late into the night is stopped on the way to work the next morning and shows a BAC of 0.04%. Which is correct?
- It is not drunk driving because the driver slept
- The standard is relaxed in the morning
- It is below 0.05%, so it is not punishable
- It counts as drunk driving and leads to license suspension
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — It counts as drunk driving and leads to license suspension
Drunk driving is judged by the BAC at the time of driving, not by when the drinking happened. 0.04% is at or above 0.03%, so even a hangover reading counts as drunk driving and leads to suspension.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 44
-
206.In Korea, at what level of accumulated penalty points does a license suspension take effect?
- 10 points
- 20 points
- 40 points
- 60 points
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — 40 points
A license suspension is carried out once the penalty points reach 40 or more. Below 40, the points are only recorded and the license is not suspended right away.
-
207.In Korea, if a driver's penalty points reach 50 and the license is suspended, how long is the suspension in principle?
- 25 days
- 40 days
- 50 days
- 100 days
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — 50 days
The suspension period is calculated at one day per penalty point. So 50 points means a 50-day suspension in principle; reductions for completing education are applied separately.
-
208.In Korea, which is the correct one-year threshold for license revocation due to accumulated penalty points?
- 100 points or more in 1 year
- 121 points or more in 1 year
- 150 points or more in 1 year
- 201 points or more in 1 year
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — 121 points or more in 1 year
A license is revoked when accumulated points reach 121 or more within one year. 201 points is the two-year threshold, and 271 points is the three-year threshold.
-
209.In Korea, choose the 2 correct thresholds for license revocation due to accumulated penalty points.Choose 2
- 201 points or more in 2 years
- 150 points or more in 2 years
- 200 points or more in 3 years
- 271 points or more in 3 years
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① ④ — 201 points or more in 2 years / 271 points or more in 3 years
The revocation thresholds are 121 points in 1 year, 201 points in 2 years and 271 points in 3 years. 150 or 200 points do not match any period's threshold.
-
210.In Korea, when are penalty points removed for a driver whose points are below 40?
- Automatically the month after they were given
- When one year passes from the last violation without any violation or accident
- When the driver changes cars
- Immediately upon license renewal
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — When one year passes from the last violation without any violation or accident
If the points are below 40, they expire once one year has passed since the last violation with no further violations or accidents. Changing cars or renewing the license has nothing to do with points.
-
211.In Korea, under the 'Good Driving Mileage' program, how many credit points does a driver earn by keeping a pledge of no violations and no accidents for one year?
- 5 points
- 10 points
- 20 points
- 40 points
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — 10 points
The program credits 10 points for each year a driver keeps the pledge of no violations and no accidents, and these can be deducted from penalty points when a suspension is later imposed. Enrollment follows the National Police Agency's guidance.
-
212.In Korea, a speed camera records a speeding car, and the vehicle owner receives an administrative fine. Which statement is correct?
- Penalty points are always added with the fine
- Paying the fine suspends the driver's license
- The fine is charged to a passenger, not the driver
- When handled as an owner's administrative fine, no penalty points are given
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — When handled as an owner's administrative fine, no penalty points are given
Because an unmanned camera cannot identify the driver, the owner is charged an administrative fine with no penalty points. If the actual driver is identified and handled with a traffic-violation fine instead, points are added.
-
213.In Korea, what happens if a driver who received a traffic-violation fine notice does not pay within the deadline?
- A surcharge is added, and if still unpaid the case goes to summary trial
- The fine is waived after the deadline
- The license is automatically revoked
- It can be paid together with the next violation
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — A surcharge is added, and if still unpaid the case goes to summary trial
If the fine is not paid in time, a surcharge is added, and if it remains unpaid the case moves to a summary trial. It is never waived just because time passes.
-
214.In Korea, a person whose license is currently suspended drives a car himself because 'it is only a short distance'. What is this?
- Short trips are allowed during a suspension
- Only extra penalty points are added
- It counts as driving without a license
- It is fine if a passenger is present
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — It counts as driving without a license
During a suspension the person has no right to drive, so driving then is driving without a license. Distance or having a passenger makes no difference.
-
215.In Korea, which is correct about a driver who causes an injury accident and leaves the scene without helping the injured?
- It is fine if insurance handles it later
- It is subject to aggravated punishment and license revocation
- It is not punished if the injury is minor
- Only 10 penalty points are given
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — It is subject to aggravated punishment and license revocation
After an accident with casualties, the driver must stop, help and report; leaving is a hit-and-run that brings aggravated punishment and license revocation. Insurance or a minor injury does not excuse it.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 54
-
216.In Korea, a driver with comprehensive insurance injures someone. In which case can the driver face criminal charges even if the victim does not want punishment?
- Rear-ending the car ahead after following too closely, causing a minor injury
- Running a red light and injuring a pedestrian
- Touching a car in the next lane while changing lanes, causing a minor injury
- Brushing someone while moving slowly in a narrow alley, causing a minor injury
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Running a red light and injuring a pedestrian
Running a signal is one of the 12 serious-negligence items in the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents, so criminal charges are possible even with comprehensive insurance. The other cases are not on that list and can usually be settled through insurance and agreement.
-
217.In Korea, choose the 2 items that are serious negligence under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents, punishable even with comprehensive insurance.Choose 2
- Crossing the center line and hitting an oncoming car
- Changing lanes after signaling late
- Causing an accident by failing to protect a pedestrian in a crosswalk
- Touching a pillar while leaving a parking lot
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① ③ — Crossing the center line and hitting an oncoming car / Causing an accident by failing to protect a pedestrian in a crosswalk
Crossing the center line and violating the duty to protect pedestrians in a crosswalk are among the 12 serious-negligence items. Signaling late or touching a parking-lot pillar are not on the list.
-
218.In Korea, what level of speeding counts as serious negligence under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents?
- More than 5 km/h over the limit
- More than 10 km/h over the limit
- More than 20 km/h over the limit
- More than 60 km/h over the limit
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — More than 20 km/h over the limit
Causing an accident while exceeding the limit by more than 20 km/h is serious negligence, so criminal charges are possible regardless of insurance. Smaller excesses are still speeding violations but do not fall under this exception.
-
219.In Korea, when is it allowed to hold a mobile phone and talk while driving?
- When moving slowly at 20 km/h or less
- On a straight section of expressway
- For a short call using only one hand
- When the vehicle is completely stopped
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — When the vehicle is completely stopped
Using a phone while driving is prohibited, with exceptions such as when the vehicle is stopped, when driving an emergency vehicle, or when reporting an accident. Driving slowly or keeping the call short is not an exception.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 49
-

- Navigation guidance to the destination
- A video streaming broadcast
- A TV drama
- A movie trailer

Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 49
-
221.In Korea, what is the speed limit in a children's protection zone (school zone) in principle?
- 20 km/h
- 30 km/h
- 40 km/h
- 50 km/h
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — 30 km/h
In Korea, school zones are limited to 30 km/h in principle. Some sections set an even lower limit by sign, so follow the signs on site.
-
222.In Korea, during what hours are penalty points doubled for violations such as speeding or running a signal in a school zone?
- All 24 hours
- From 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
- From 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Only on school-day afternoons
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — From 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Violations such as speeding or running a signal in a school zone between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. bring double points and heavier fines than on ordinary roads. The speed limit itself still applies at other times.
-
223.In Korea, which is correct about injuring a child in a school zone by failing to drive safely?
- The driver can face aggravated punishment under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes
- There is no criminal punishment if the driver has comprehensive insurance
- A minor injury is not punishable
- Outside school dismissal hours it is the same as any accident
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — The driver can face aggravated punishment under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes
Injuring or killing a child in a school zone through a breach of the duty to drive safely can bring aggravated punishment under that Act (often called the Minsik Act). Comprehensive insurance does not exempt the driver.
-

- 6 months
- 1 year
- 3 years
- 5 years
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — 1 year
After a revocation for one drunk-driving offense without an accident, the person generally cannot obtain a license for 1 year from the revocation date. The period is longer for repeat offenses or offenses involving an accident.
-
225.In Korea, which counts as 'joint dangerous driving' under the Road Traffic Act?
- One driver changing lanes often in a traffic jam
- Two family cars traveling separately to the same place
- Following the car ahead at a safe distance
- Two or more people driving two or more vehicles in a line and endangering others
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Two or more people driving two or more vehicles in a line and endangering others
Joint dangerous driving is when two or more people together drive two or more vehicles in a row, front-to-back or side-by-side, without good reason, endangering others or causing traffic danger. Simply going to the same place together does not count.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 46
-
226.In Korea, which of the following can count as 'reckless driving'?
- Changing lanes once after signaling
- Speeding and braking suddenly in a row to threaten another car
- Stopping on the shoulder because of a breakdown
- Continuing to drive slowly because of congestion
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Speeding and braking suddenly in a row to threaten another car
Reckless driving means doing two or more listed acts in a row, such as running signals, speeding, sudden braking or improper overtaking, or repeating one of them, so as to threaten others. Normal lane changes, breakdown stops and slow driving in traffic do not count.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 46-3

- Only the driver must wear one
- Only the front seats must wear them
- Occupants of all seats must wear them on every road
- Rear-seat belts are required only on expressways
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Occupants of all seats must wear them on every road
Since 2018, seat belts have been mandatory in all seats on every road, not just expressways and motorways. The driver must also make sure passengers buckle up.
-
228.In Korea, while leaving a parking lot you scratch a parked car and the owner is nowhere to be seen. What should you do?
- Leave your contact details or otherwise provide your personal information to the owner
- Leave if the scratch is small
- Wait on the spot no matter how long until the owner returns
- Contact the police the next day
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Leave your contact details or otherwise provide your personal information to the owner
Even when only a parked car is damaged, the driver must give the owner their name, contact details and similar information, and simply leaving is punishable. Leaving contact details or notifying the police right away is enough; waiting indefinitely is not required.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 54
-
229.In Korea, you had one glass of beer at a work dinner about 30 minutes ago. Home is a 10-minute drive. What is the best course of action?
- Drive slowly since it was only one glass
- Open the windows to sober up, then drive
- Drink coffee and drive right away
- Do not drive; use a designated-driver service or public transport
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Do not drive; use a designated-driver service or public transport
BAC from the same amount of alcohol varies by person and situation, and even a small amount slows judgment and reactions. If you have been drinking, the rule is not to drive at all; coffee or fresh air does not remove alcohol faster.
-
230.In Korea, what must a person whose license has been revoked do to drive again?
- The license is automatically restored 3 months after revocation
- Paying a fine restores the license immediately
- After the disqualification period ends, pass the license test again and obtain a new license
- Passing an aptitude test alone allows driving right away
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — After the disqualification period ends, pass the license test again and obtain a new license
Revocation cancels the license itself, so after the disqualification period the person must complete any required education and pass the test again to get a new license. This differs from a suspension, after which driving resumes once the period ends.
-
231.In Korea, how long is a learner's permit (practice driving license) issued during the license process valid?
- 6 months
- 1 year from the date of issue
- 2 years from the date of issue
- Indefinitely, until the full license is obtained
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — 1 year from the date of issue
In Korea a learner's permit is valid for 1 year from the date it is issued. If the road test is not passed within that time, the permit lapses and must be obtained again. It is not valid without a time limit.
-
232.In Korea, who may ride along and supervise someone practicing on public roads with a learner's permit?
- An experienced family member even without a license
- A friend who got a license 6 months ago
- A person who has held a license valid for that vehicle for more than 2 years
- Someone who got a learner's permit on the same day
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — A person who has held a license valid for that vehicle for more than 2 years
In Korea the supervisor must have held a license that covers the practice vehicle for more than 2 years (and the license must not be suspended). Someone with no license, a recent license, or only a learner's permit cannot supervise.
-
233.In Korea, a person with only a learner's permit drove alone to work one morning. Which statement is correct?
- It is a violation: driving for a purpose other than practice without a supervisor
- No problem, since a learner's permit is still a license
- Driving alone is allowed only during commuting hours
- Driving alone is fine as long as a practice sign is attached
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — It is a violation: driving for a purpose other than practice without a supervisor
In Korea a learner's permit may be used only for practice with a qualified supervisor on board. Commuting alone is a non-practice purpose and also breaks the supervisor requirement. Displaying the practice sign is just one of the conditions and does not permit solo driving.
-
234.Under Korea's Road Traffic Act, who counts as a 'novice driver'?
- A driver under age 20
- A person who got a learner's permit less than a year ago
- Anyone who has just bought a first car, regardless of experience
- A person for whom 2 years have not yet passed since first obtaining a driver's license
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — A person for whom 2 years have not yet passed since first obtaining a driver's license
In Korea a novice driver is someone for whom 2 years have not passed since they first received a driver's license. If a license was revoked and obtained again, the count restarts from the new date. Age and car ownership have nothing to do with it.
-
235.In Korea, how long may a person holding an International Driving Permit issued abroad drive in the country?
- 3 months from the date of entry
- 1 year from the date of entry
- Without limit, for as long as the permit itself is valid
- Driving in Korea with an International Driving Permit is not allowed
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — 1 year from the date of entry
In Korea an International Driving Permit issued abroad may be used for 1 year from the date of entry. Even if the permit itself remains valid longer, after a year the person must convert to or obtain a Korean license.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 96
-

- It is fine to lend it to family or friends
- Only the borrower is punished; the lender is fine
- Lending your license so someone else can drive is grounds for revocation of your license
- It is acceptable for about a day
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Lending your license so someone else can drive is grounds for revocation of your license
In Korea lending your license so another person can drive, or using someone else's license, is prohibited and is grounds for license revocation. It must not be lent regardless of relationship or duration, and the borrower is also punished, for example for unlicensed driving.
-
237.In Korea, a Class 1 Ordinary license holder missed the periodic aptitude test and still has not taken it more than a year later. Which statement is correct?
- Going over a year without taking the periodic aptitude test can lead to license revocation
- The license is extended automatically, so there is no problem
- It can simply be done together at the next renewal
- Only 10 penalty points are imposed
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Going over a year without taking the periodic aptitude test can lead to license revocation
In Korea a Class 1 license holder must take the periodic aptitude test within the set period, and failing to take it for more than a year after the period ends is grounds for revocation. Licenses are not extended automatically, so it is best not to put it off once notified.
-
238.In Korea, what must a person aged 75 or older complete by law when renewing a driver's license?
- Retaking the road test
- The vehicle's periodic inspection
- Submitting a certificate of driving history
- A traffic safety education course
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — A traffic safety education course
In Korea people aged 75 or older must complete traffic safety education to renew or newly obtain a license, and from that age the renewal cycle shortens to 3 years. Retaking the road test or having a vehicle inspected is not a renewal requirement.
-
239.In Korea, what is the license renewal cycle for a 40-year-old driver? (No special conditions such as health issues)
- 5 years
- 10 years
- 15 years
- Valid for life with no renewal
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — 10 years
In Korea the renewal cycle for drivers under 65 is, in principle, 10 years. It shortens to 5 years for ages 65 to 74 and to 3 years for 75 and older. A license is not valid for life; it must be renewed at set intervals.
-
240.In Korea, which statement about a car without compulsory (liability) insurance is correct?
- Insurance is optional, so driving it is fine
- There is no punishment unless an accident happens
- Driving a car without compulsory insurance on the road is a criminal offense
- Only comprehensive insurance is required
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Driving a car without compulsory insurance on the road is a criminal offense
In Korea vehicle owners must carry compulsory insurance under the Compulsory Motor Vehicle Liability Security Act. Not enrolling brings an administrative fine, and driving an uninsured car on the road is a criminal offense whether or not an accident occurs. Comprehensive (voluntary) insurance is optional, but compulsory insurance is not.
-
241.In Korea, which best describes the relationship between compulsory (liability) insurance and comprehensive (voluntary) insurance?
- Compulsory insurance sets a minimum for compensating victims; losses beyond it are covered by voluntary insurance
- Compulsory insurance alone covers repairs to both cars without any limit
- With comprehensive insurance, compulsory insurance is no longer needed
- Compulsory insurance covers only injuries, with no mandatory part for property damage
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Compulsory insurance sets a minimum for compensating victims; losses beyond it are covered by voluntary insurance
In Korea compulsory insurance is a legally required minimum for compensating traffic accident victims and has coverage limits. Losses above the limit and repairs to your own car are covered by voluntary insurance. Comprehensive policies usually include the compulsory portion, but compulsory coverage is still required, and property damage also has a mandatory portion.
-
242.In Korea, a driver who had not drunk alcohol drove while possibly unable to drive normally because of drugs such as narcotics or cannabis. Which statement is correct?
- With a blood alcohol level of zero, there is no basis for punishment
- Driving while drugs or similar substances may prevent normal driving is prohibited and punishable
- It is fine if no accident occurred
- It is only a problem without a doctor's prescription
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Driving while drugs or similar substances may prevent normal driving is prohibited and punishable
Separately from alcohol, Korea's Road Traffic Act prohibits driving while fatigue, illness or drugs (narcotics, cannabis, psychotropic substances and the like) may prevent normal driving. It is punishable even with no alcohol detected and no accident. Even prescribed medicine that may cause drowsiness or dizziness is a good reason not to drive.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 45

- She becomes responsible only if the colleague causes an accident
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — She may be punished for aiding drunk driving
In Korea giving car keys to someone who has been drinking, or encouraging them to drive, is treated as helping drunk driving and can be punished as aiding and abetting. Not driving yourself, or there being no accident, does not remove that responsibility. The right thing is to suggest a designated driver service or public transport.
-
244.In Korea, a person previously punished for drunk driving is caught driving drunk again. Which statement is correct?
- Aggravated provisions that punish repeat drunk driving more heavily than a first offense may apply
- Since it was long ago, it is always treated as a first offense
- Aggravated punishment applies even below 0.03% blood alcohol
- Paying a fine means there is no effect on the license
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Aggravated provisions that punish repeat drunk driving more heavily than a first offense may apply
Korea's Road Traffic Act punishes repeat drunk driving more heavily than a first offense, and the period before a new license can be obtained also becomes longer. However, a blood alcohol level below 0.03% does not meet the drunk-driving threshold. Remember that repeat offenses bring heavier criminal and license penalties.
-
245.In Korea, a person whose license was revoked wants to retake the license test after the disqualification period ends. What must they complete before the test?
- The vehicle's periodic inspection
- Obtaining a certificate of driving history
- A one-year accident-free pledge
- Mandatory special traffic safety education
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Mandatory special traffic safety education
In Korea a person whose license was revoked must complete mandatory special traffic safety education before taking the test to obtain a license again; revocation for drunk driving is a typical case. Vehicle inspections, driving history certificates and pledges are unrelated to this requirement.
-
246.In Korea, angry that a car cut in front, a driver chased it, blocked its path and braked suddenly to threaten it. Which statement is correct?
- It is not punished because the other driver was at fault first
- It is retaliatory driving aimed at a specific person, punishable under the Criminal Act, and can also bring license sanctions
- Without an accident, it ends with a simple warning
- It only brings penalty points for an overtaking violation
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — It is retaliatory driving aimed at a specific person, punishable under the Criminal Act, and can also bring license sanctions
In Korea retaliatory driving, using a car to threaten or injure a specific person, can be punished under the Criminal Act (for example as aggravated intimidation) and can also lead to license suspension or revocation. The other driver's fault and whether an accident occurred do not matter. Even when angered by a cut-in, keep your distance, and if threatened, report it with dashcam footage.
-
247.In Korea, at a checkpoint a police officer asks to see your driver's license, but you left the physical card at home. If your smartphone has an officially issued mobile driver's license, what applies?
- A mobile driver's license is only for ID and cannot prove driving qualification
- Without the physical card, it counts as unlicensed driving
- You can present the mobile driver's license
- Stating the license number verbally is enough
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — You can present the mobile driver's license
In Korea an officially issued mobile driver's license has the same effect as the physical license and can be shown to police. If your license is valid, leaving the card at home does not by itself make it unlicensed driving. A screenshot, however, is not a mobile driver's license and is not accepted.
-
248.In Korea, a learner's permit holder practicing with a supervisor ran a red light and caused an accident injuring someone. Which statement about the learner's permit is correct?
- The learner's permit may be revoked
- No sanction applies because it was practice
- Only penalty points accumulate and they disappear once the full license is issued
- Only the supervisor's license is revoked
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — The learner's permit may be revoked
In Korea a learner's permit can be revoked if its holder causes a traffic accident or violates the law while driving (with legal exceptions, such as accidents during training or testing). Practice does not exempt anyone from responsibility, so learners should drive even more carefully than licensed drivers.
-
249.In Korea, after an all-night shift you are so tired your eyes keep closing. Home is 20 minutes away by car. Which decision follows the law?
- Opening the window and playing loud music makes it OK to drive
- Since you have not been drinking, there is no legal restriction
- Driving is fine as long as it is not on an expressway
- Driving while fatigue may prevent normal driving is prohibited, so rest or use other transport
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Driving while fatigue may prevent normal driving is prohibited, so rest or use other transport
Korea's Road Traffic Act prohibits driving while fatigue, illness or drugs may prevent normal driving, and being so tired that you keep nodding off can fall under this. Opening a window or playing music only helps briefly, so rest properly or take public transport or a taxi.

250.When can tire pressure be checked most accurately?
- Before driving, while the tires are cold
- Right after driving on an expressway for an hour
- After parking in strong midday sun for a long time
- Right after braking hard several times
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Before driving, while the tires are cold
Tires warm up from driving or sunlight, which makes the pressure read higher. Checking them cold before driving gives a reading you can compare accurately with the recommended value.
-
251.What is the best way to find the correct tire pressure for your car?
- Inflate to the maximum pressure printed on the tire sidewall
- Use the same value as another car
- Check the label inside the driver's door or the owner's manual
- If the tire does not look flat, it is enough
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Check the label inside the driver's door or the owner's manual
The right pressure differs by model, and the manufacturer lists it on a label inside the driver's door or in the owner's manual. The number on the sidewall is the maximum the tire can take, not the recommended value.
-
252.What phenomenon occurs when an under-inflated tire is driven at high speed, deforming into a wave shape that can overheat and burst?
- Vapor lock
- Standing wave
- Brake fade
- Hydroplaning
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Standing wave
A standing wave forms when an under-inflated tire is pressed again before its contact patch recovers at high speed, building heat that can lead to a blowout. Vapor lock and fade are brake problems, and hydroplaning happens on wet roads.
-
253.What is likely to happen when tires are inflated well above the recommended pressure?
- Only the outer edges wear quickly
- The contact area grows and braking improves
- The ride becomes softer
- The contact area shrinks, grip drops and the center wears quickly
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — The contact area shrinks, grip drops and the center wears quickly
Over-inflated tires bulge so that only the center touches the road, reducing grip and wearing the middle faster. Fast wear on both edges is a sign of under-inflation.
-
254.In Korea, to what depth can a car tire's tread wear before it must be replaced?
- 0.5 mm
- 1.6 mm
- 3.0 mm
- 5.0 mm
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — 1.6 mm
A tread depth of 1.6 mm is the wear limit, and when the wear indicator in the grooves becomes level with the surface, it is time to replace the tire. For safety on wet roads, it is better to replace tires before they reach the limit.
-
255.Choose the 2 correct ways to reduce hydroplaning on wet roads.Choose 2
- Drive at a reduced speed
- Lower tire pressure below the recommended value
- Replace badly worn tires
- Brake hard in puddles
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① ③ — Drive at a reduced speed / Replace badly worn tires
Hydroplaning is more likely at higher speeds and with worn tread, so slowing down and maintaining tires are the key. Lowering pressure actually worsens water drainage, and hard braking makes skidding worse.
-
256.A warning light shaped like a horseshoe with an exclamation mark inside (tire pressure warning) comes on. What should you do?
- Top up the engine oil
- Ignore it and drive fast to your destination
- Stop in a safe place and check the tires and their pressure
- Disconnect the battery terminals
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Stop in a safe place and check the tires and their pressure
This light means the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) has detected low pressure. Check the tires for damage and their pressure in a safe place, then inflate them or have them serviced.
-
257.While driving, the engine oil pressure warning light (shaped like an oil can) comes on. What is the most appropriate action?
- Stop immediately in a safe place, turn off the engine and check the oil
- Speed up to reach a repair shop quickly
- Turning off the air conditioner will fix it
- Wait until the next scheduled service
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Stop immediately in a safe place, turn off the engine and check the oil
Low oil pressure means the engine is not being lubricated, which can cause serious damage in a short time. Pull over safely, turn off the engine, check the oil level, and call a tow if needed.
-
258.The engine overheats: the coolant temperature gauge climbs high and steam comes from under the hood. What should you NOT do?
- Stop the car in a safe place
- Turn on the hazard lights
- Wait until the engine cools down
- Open the coolant (radiator) cap while it is hot
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Open the coolant (radiator) cap while it is hot
Hot coolant is under high pressure and can spray out when the cap is opened, causing burns. Stop safely, let it cool fully, then check it or call for service.
-
259.While driving, a battery-shaped warning light comes on. What does it mainly indicate?
- Engine oil is low
- A problem in the charging system, such as the alternator
- Tire pressure is low
- The fuel is almost empty
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — A problem in the charging system, such as the alternator
The battery light means the battery is not being charged properly while driving, suggesting a fault in the charging system such as the alternator or drive belt. If you keep driving, the car may run out of power and stop, so have it checked.
-
260.The parking brake is fully released, but the brake warning light stays on. What should you suspect first?
- Low washer fluid
- Low air-conditioner refrigerant
- Low brake fluid or another brake system fault
- A clogged fuel filter
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Low brake fluid or another brake system fault
If the brake light stays on with the parking brake released, the brake fluid may be low or there may be a fault in the brake system. Because this directly affects stopping power, postpone driving and have it inspected right away.
-
261.What is the main reason brake fluid should be replaced regularly?
- It absorbs moisture over time, which lowers its boiling point
- Darker fluid reduces engine power
- It contains an additive that improves fuel economy
- It prevents tire wear
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — It absorbs moisture over time, which lowers its boiling point
Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air, so old fluid has a lower boiling point and is more prone to vapor lock, where bubbles form on long descents and the brakes weaken. That is why it is replaced at set intervals.
-
262.What is the best way to drive down a long, steep downhill road?
- Shift to neutral and coast down
- Keep pressing the foot brake all the way down
- Turn off the engine and roll down
- Use engine braking in a low gear, with the foot brake as a supplement
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Use engine braking in a low gear, with the foot brake as a supplement
Relying only on the foot brake can overheat the brakes and cause fade or vapor lock. Use engine braking in a low gear as the main method with the foot brake as backup; coasting in neutral or with the engine off is very dangerous.
-
263.What is it called when the brakes are used hard and often, the friction material overheats, and braking power drops even when the pedal is pressed?
- Standing wave
- Brake fade
- Hydroplaning
- Road holding
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Brake fade
Fade is the loss of friction when the brake pads or linings get too hot. Along with vapor lock, where brake fluid boils and forms bubbles, it tends to happen when the foot brake is overused on long descents.
-
264.What is the most appropriate way to check the engine oil level?
- Measure right after driving with the engine running
- Measure while parked on a slope
- On level ground, turn the engine off, wait a moment and see if the level is between the dipstick's upper and lower marks
- Judge only by the oil's color
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — On level ground, turn the engine off, wait a moment and see if the level is between the dipstick's upper and lower marks
Check the oil on level ground with the engine off, after waiting briefly for the oil to drain down, using the dipstick. Measuring on a slope or right after running the engine gives a misleading level.
-
265.Choose the 2 correct fuel-saving (eco-driving) habits.Choose 2
- Idle for a long time before setting off to warm up the engine
- Avoid sudden starts and hard acceleration; accelerate smoothly
- Change lanes often to find the fastest one
- Remove unnecessary items from the trunk
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② ④ — Avoid sudden starts and hard acceleration; accelerate smoothly / Remove unnecessary items from the trunk
Smooth acceleration and reducing weight are typical ways to cut fuel use. Long idling just burns fuel, and frequent lane changes add acceleration and braking, which hurts both economy and safety.
-
266.You see from far away that the traffic light ahead has turned red. How can you approach it safely while saving fuel?
- Lift off the accelerator early with the car in gear and slow down gradually
- Shift to neutral and roll quickly
- Accelerate until just before the stop line and brake hard
- Turn off the engine and roll
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Lift off the accelerator early with the car in gear and slow down gradually
Lifting off the accelerator early and slowing down in gear reduces fuel use and avoids hard braking. Rolling in neutral or with the engine off reduces control and is dangerous.
-
267.What is the most appropriate way to drive a modern passenger car after starting it in winter?
- Idle for 20 minutes or more until the engine is fully hot
- Accelerate hard right after starting to warm the engine
- Warm up briefly, then drive gently for the first while to warm it up
- No warm-up is ever needed in winter, so drive fast immediately
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Warm up briefly, then drive gently for the first while to warm it up
For modern cars, a short warm-up followed by gentle driving warms the engine efficiently without long idling. Long idling wastes fuel and increases emissions, and hard acceleration on a cold engine is also bad.
-
268.What is the feature that lets an electric or hybrid car run its motor as a generator to charge the battery when slowing down?
- Idle stop system
- Cruise control
- Lane keeping assist
- Regenerative braking
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Regenerative braking
Regenerative braking uses the wheels' kinetic energy during deceleration to turn the motor, generate electricity and store it in the battery. Slowing down gently and early recovers more energy and helps range.
-
269.When driving an electric car slowly through a residential alley, what requires special attention?
- Engine overheating
- The car is quiet, so pedestrians may not notice it approaching
- Gear-shift shock
- Exhaust smell
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — The car is quiet, so pedestrians may not notice it approaching
Electric cars make little noise at low speed, so pedestrians, especially children and older people, may notice them late. Even with an artificial driving sound, slow down and watch for pedestrians first.
-
270.Which describes a typical hybrid car correctly?
- It runs using both an engine and an electric motor
- It charges only from external power and runs only on a motor
- It makes electricity from hydrogen to run
- It has no engine and runs only on solar power
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — It runs using both an engine and an electric motor
A hybrid uses an internal combustion engine and an electric motor together or alternately depending on conditions. A car that charges externally and runs only on a motor is an electric car, and one that makes electricity from hydrogen is a hydrogen fuel-cell car.
-
271.In Korea, an EV charging space in an apartment parking lot is empty. What should the driver of a gasoline car do?
- Park there if it is only briefly
- Park there at night
- Not park in the charging space and use a regular parking space
- Park there with the hazard lights on
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Not park in the charging space and use a regular parking space
EV charging spaces are for vehicles that are charging, and parking a non-charging ordinary car there can bring an administrative fine under the relevant law. Use a regular space regardless of the time of day or hazard lights.
-
272.When helping at the scene of a crashed electric or hybrid car, what must you never touch?
- The driver's door handle
- The hazard light switch
- The injured person's hand
- The orange-insulated high-voltage cables
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — The orange-insulated high-voltage cables
High-voltage wiring in electric and hybrid cars is usually marked in orange, and if damaged in a crash it poses a risk of electric shock. Do not touch these cables during a rescue, and tell 119 the type of vehicle.
-
273.When the wipers run, they leave streaks on the glass and make a juddering noise. What is the best fix?
- Spray washer fluid more often
- Replace the wiper blades (rubber)
- Set the wipers to maximum speed
- Rub cooking oil on the glass
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Replace the wiper blades (rubber)
Streaks and juddering indicate hardened or worn wiper rubber, so replace the blades. Visibility in rain directly affects safety, so do not put it off.
-
274.Which statement about windshield washer fluid in winter is correct?
- Use winter (antifreeze) washer fluid so it does not freeze
- Tap water alone is enough
- Leave the washer reservoir empty in winter
- Mix in engine oil
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Use winter (antifreeze) washer fluid so it does not freeze
Plain water can freeze below zero so it will not spray, or it can freeze on the glass and block your view. In winter, use a washer fluid with a low freezing point.
-
275.At night, you are driving with high beams on when a car approaches from the opposite direction. What should you do?
- Keep the high beams on to secure your view
- Flash the high beams several times to signal
- Switch to low beams to reduce glare for the other driver
- Turn off the headlights completely
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Switch to low beams to reduce glare for the other driver
When meeting an oncoming car at night, you must dim your headlights to low beam to avoid dazzling the other driver. Keeping or flashing high beams can blind them momentarily, and turning off the lights makes your car invisible.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 37
-
276.In Korea, you are about to enter a tunnel during the day. Which use of lights is correct?
- No lights are needed because it is daytime
- Turn on the headlights and tail lights before entering
- Turn on only the hazard lights
- Turn on the interior light
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Turn on the headlights and tail lights before entering
When driving in a tunnel, the headlights and tail lights must be on even in daytime, both to see and to be seen. Hazard lights are for signaling a breakdown or danger.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 37
-
277.What is the most appropriate use of lights when driving in thick fog?
- Turn on the high beams to light far ahead
- Turn off all lights and go slowly
- Turn on the interior light to brighten the dashboard
- Turn on the low beams and fog lights and slow down
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Turn on the low beams and fog lights and slow down
In fog, high beams reflect off the fog and make it even harder to see. Use low beams and fog lights so others can see you, slow down and keep a generous distance.
-
278.What is the correct way to brake in an emergency in a car equipped with ABS (anti-lock braking system)?
- Press the brake pedal hard all the way and hold it while steering to avoid the hazard
- Pump the pedal in several short presses
- Let go of the steering wheel and just brake
- Lift your foot as soon as the pedal vibrates
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Press the brake pedal hard all the way and hold it while steering to avoid the hazard
ABS automatically adjusts braking so the wheels do not lock, letting you steer even during hard braking. Pedal vibration is normal operation, so keep pressing firmly instead of lifting your foot.
-
279.When jump-starting a car with a dead battery using cables from another car, where is the last connection made?
- The + terminal of the dead battery
- The + terminal of the good battery
- An unpainted metal part such as the engine block of the car with the dead battery
- The + terminal of the good battery once more
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — An unpainted metal part such as the engine block of the car with the dead battery
The usual order is dead car +, good car +, good car -, and finally a metal ground point on the dead car. Because the last connection can spark, it is made away from the battery; follow the owner's manual if it says otherwise.
-
280.In Korea, you want to drive a 12-seat van (passenger capacity 12). Which license allows this? (Non-commercial use)
- Motorized bicycle license
- Class 2 Ordinary license
- Class 1 Ordinary license
- Class 2 Small license
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Class 1 Ordinary license
In Korea a Class 1 Ordinary license covers vans with a passenger capacity of up to 15. A Class 2 Ordinary license covers vans only up to 10 passengers, so it cannot be used for a 12-seater. The motorized bicycle and Class 2 Small licenses are for two-wheelers.
-
281.In Korea, someone with only a Class 2 Ordinary license wants to drive a truck with a 5-ton load capacity. Which statement is correct?
- A Class 2 Ordinary license covers trucks only up to a 4-ton load capacity, so it cannot be driven
- It can be driven if the truck is empty
- A Class 2 Ordinary license covers trucks under 12 tons of load capacity
- Trucks can be driven with any type of license
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — A Class 2 Ordinary license covers trucks only up to a 4-ton load capacity, so it cannot be driven
In Korea a Class 2 Ordinary license covers trucks with a load capacity of up to 4 tons. Trucks under 12 tons of load capacity require a Class 1 Ordinary license. The rule is based on the truck's rated load capacity, not on what is actually loaded, so an empty truck is no different.
-
282.In Korea, which vehicle can be driven with a Class 2 Ordinary license?
- A van with a passenger capacity of 15
- A van with a passenger capacity of 10 or fewer
- A truck with an 8-ton load capacity
- A wrecker (tow truck)
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — A van with a passenger capacity of 10 or fewer
In Korea a Class 2 Ordinary license covers passenger cars, vans with a capacity of 10 or fewer, and trucks up to a 4-ton load capacity, among others. A 15-seat van and an 8-ton truck require a Class 1 Ordinary license, and a wrecker requires a separate special license.
-
283.In Korea, you passed the skills test in an automatic car and received a Class 2 Ordinary license with an 'automatic transmission only' condition. Which statement is correct?
- The condition disappears automatically after one year
- You can drive a manual car if it belongs to your family
- You may drive a manual car when the roads are quiet
- You cannot drive a manual car; to do so you must retake the test in a manual car
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — You cannot drive a manual car; to do so you must retake the test in a manual car
In Korea taking the test in an automatic car puts an automatic-only condition on the license, so manual cars cannot be driven. The condition does not expire with time; to drive a manual car you must retake the skills test in one. Who owns the car and road conditions make no difference.
-
284.In Korea, you are fitting only two snow chains to a front-wheel-drive car. Where should they go?
- On the two front wheels, which are the drive wheels
- On the two rear wheels
- One front and one rear wheel, diagonally
- Any wheels will do
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — On the two front wheels, which are the drive wheels
Snow chains work only on the drive wheels that deliver power to the road, so a front-wheel-drive car takes them on the front wheels; a rear-wheel-drive car on the rear. Fitting them diagonally gives uneven grip side to side and is dangerous. For all-wheel-drive cars, follow the owner's manual.
-
285.In Korea, you have been driving on snow with chains fitted and now reach a long stretch of dry road with no snow. What is the best thing to do?
- Keep the chains on and drive at normal speed
- Keep the chains on and speed up to get through quickly
- Stop in a safe place to remove the chains, and drive slowly while they are fitted
- Keep driving until the chains wear away naturally
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Stop in a safe place to remove the chains, and drive slowly while they are fitted
Snow chains add grip on snow and ice, and you should drive slowly while they are fitted. Driving on dry pavement can break the chains, damage the tires or body, and make braking unstable. On a long stretch with no snow, stop somewhere safe and remove them.
-
286.In Korea, you bought a new non-commercial passenger car. When is its first periodic vehicle inspection due, and how often after that?
- Every year starting 1 year after purchase
- First 4 years after new registration, then every 2 years
- Every 5 years starting 10 years after purchase
- Only after an accident
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — First 4 years after new registration, then every 2 years
In Korea a non-commercial passenger car has its first periodic inspection 4 years after being registered new, then every 2 years. Missing the set period can bring an administrative fine, so check the dates when you receive a notice. Commercial vehicles, vans and trucks have different cycles.
-
287.In Korea, you received a notice that a manufacturing defect was found in your car model and the maker is issuing a recall (corrective action). What is the best response?
- Ignore it until something breaks
- Pay to have the part fixed at an ordinary repair shop
- Wait until you sell the car and tell the next owner
- Follow the notice and have the fix done at a designated service center (free in principle)
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Follow the notice and have the fix done at a designated service center (free in principle)
In Korea a recall is the system by which the maker fixes safety-related manufacturing defects, and in principle the owner pays nothing. When notified, book the designated service center and have the work done. Putting it off until something fails can lead to an accident.
-
288.In Korea, you are installing a rear-facing infant car seat. Where must you never install it?
- The middle of the back seat
- The back seat behind the driver
- The front passenger seat with an active airbag
- The back seat behind the front passenger
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — The front passenger seat with an active airbag
If a rear-facing seat is placed in a front passenger seat with an active airbag, the deploying airbag can strike the back of the car seat hard and seriously injure the baby. Car seats belong in the back seat as a rule; follow the installation instructions for both the car and the seat.
-
289.In Korea, how should a pregnant woman wear a seat belt in a car?
- Lap belt low across the hips below the bump, shoulder belt between the breasts and down beside the bump
- Do not wear a belt so the bump is not pressed
- Wear the lap belt across the middle of the bump
- Put the shoulder belt behind the back and use only the lap belt
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Lap belt low across the hips below the bump, shoulder belt between the breasts and down beside the bump
In Korea pregnant passengers must also wear seat belts: the lap belt goes low over the hips below the bump, and the shoulder belt runs between the breasts and down the side of the bump. A lap belt over the bump presses hard on it in a crash, and removing the shoulder belt lets the body be thrown forward, which is more dangerous.
-
290.In Korea, what is the main reason for adjusting the driver's head restraint, and how should it be set?
- Lower it to the base of the neck for comfortable leaning
- Set it high enough to support the back of the head, to reduce neck injury in a rear-end collision
- Lower it fully or remove it to widen the rear view
- It is decorative, so the height does not matter
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Set it high enough to support the back of the head, to reduce neck injury in a rear-end collision
A head restraint is a safety device that stops the head snapping backward and injuring the neck in a rear-end collision. Set it high enough to support the back of the head, and not too far from it. Lowering it below the head or removing it greatly reduces protection.
-
291.In Korea, which is the best general description of dashboard warning light colors? (It varies by model)
- The colors mean nothing; they are just design
- A green light means you must stop immediately
- A yellow light can be ignored until it goes off
- Red often means a serious problem needing an immediate safe stop; yellow (amber) often means an inspection is needed soon
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Red often means a serious problem needing an immediate safe stop; yellow (amber) often means an inspection is needed soon
In most cars a red warning light signals a problem needing immediate action, such as brakes, engine oil or cooling, while yellow or amber signals something that should be checked soon. Green or blue usually just shows that a system is on. Check the owner's manual for exact meanings.
-
292.In Korea, the airbag warning light stays on while driving. What is the best judgment?
- The airbags may not work properly in a crash, so get it serviced soon
- It is a normal sign that the airbags are on standby
- It goes off when you buckle up, so it needs no attention
- Airbags are not consumables, so they never need checking
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — The airbags may not work properly in a crash, so get it serviced soon
A light that comes on briefly after starting and then goes off is a self-check, but one that stays on means a fault in the airbag system. The airbags might not deploy in a crash, or might deploy unexpectedly, so have it serviced soon. It is a different indicator from the seat belt reminder.
-
293.In Korea, right after refueling and before starting the engine, you realize you put diesel into a gasoline car. What is the best action?
- Add more gasoline to dilute it and it will be fine
- Start the engine and drive fast to burn it off
- Do not start the engine; tell the station staff and have a repair shop drain the fuel
- If only a little went in, just drive as usual
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Do not start the engine; tell the station staff and have a repair shop drain the fuel
With the wrong fuel, the most important thing is not to start the engine. Starting it spreads the wrong fuel through the fuel system and engine and can make repairs much bigger. Tell the station staff right away and have the car taken, for example by tow, to a shop to drain the fuel and inspect it.
-
294.In Korea, what are the legal visible-light transmittance standards for car windows (so-called tint darkness)? (Excluding exempt vehicles)
- No limit on any window
- Windshield 70% or more; driver-side and passenger-side front side windows 40% or more
- Windshield 40% or more; side windows 10% or more
- Only the rear window, 50% or more
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Windshield 70% or more; driver-side and passenger-side front side windows 40% or more
Korea's road traffic rules prohibit driving if the windshield's visible-light transmittance is below 70% or the side windows to the left and right of the driver's seat are below 40%. Very dark tint blocks the view at night or in rain and makes eye contact with other drivers and pedestrians hard. Some vehicles, such as ambulances, are exempt.

295.In Korea, what is the main reason to rotate tires regularly?
- To raise tire pressure
- To change the fuel
- To be exempted from periodic inspection
- To even out wear between front and rear tires so they wear uniformly and last longer
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — To even out wear between front and rear tires so they wear uniformly and last longer
Front and rear wheels do different jobs and wear at different rates. Swapping their positions at set mileage keeps all four wearing evenly, balances grip and extends tire life. Follow the owner's manual or your mechanic for the interval and pattern.

296.In Korea, you started charging at a public EV fast charger and went to eat at a nearby restaurant. Your phone notifies you that charging is finished. What should you do?
- Go back right away and move the car so the next person can charge
- Leave it there for hours until you finish eating
- Charging is done, so use the space as your personal parking spot
- Unplug the cable and leave it on top of another car
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Go back right away and move the car so the next person can charge
A charging bay is for charging, so move the car as soon as charging finishes. Korea's eco-friendly vehicle laws treat staying in a charging bay beyond a set time after charging ends as obstructing charging and enforce against it. The time limit depends on the charger type, so check the facility's guidance.
-
297.In Korea, what typically happens when driving an EV in very cold winter weather, and how should you prepare?
- The colder it gets, the better the battery works and the longer the range
- Weather has nothing to do with range
- Battery performance drops and heating uses power, so range shrinks; plan charging with extra margin
- Regenerative braking gets stronger in winter, so charging is unnecessary
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Battery performance drops and heating uses power, so range shrinks; plan charging with extra margin
EV batteries are less efficient at low temperatures, and cabin heating also draws battery power, so range drops in winter. Before a long trip, charge fully and check charger locations in advance. Regenerative braking does not remove the need to charge.
-
298.In Korea, what is the best way to look after a dashcam?
- Once installed, it never needs checking
- Check now and then that it records properly, and inspect, format or replace the memory card regularly
- It is normal for recording to stop when the card is full, so leave it
- Turn it on only when you need footage
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Check now and then that it records properly, and inspect, format or replace the memory card regularly
Dashcams sometimes fail to record when you need them because of a damaged memory card or power problems. Play back footage occasionally to check recording and the time setting, and format or replace the card regularly as the maker advises. Accidents come without warning, so it is only useful if it is always on.
-
299.In Korea, what is the best way to set your driving position?
- Recline the seatback far for comfort and drive with arms fully straight
- Sit so close that your chest nearly touches the wheel
- The pedals should be just reachable with your toes
- With the brake pedal fully pressed your knee stays slightly bent, and your elbows have some bend when holding the wheel
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — With the brake pedal fully pressed your knee stays slightly bent, and your elbows have some bend when holding the wheel
Your knee should stay slightly bent even with the brake fully pressed so you can apply full force in an emergency stop, and your elbows should be a little bent on the wheel for quick steering. Reclining too far can let you slide under the belt in a crash, and sitting too close raises the risk of airbag injury.

300.In Korea, you collide with another car at an intersection, and the other driver seems to be injured. What should you do first?
- Call your insurer to ask about fault percentages
- Stop immediately and check on and help the injured person
- Secure the dashcam footage first
- Agree on a settlement amount with the other driver
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Stop immediately and check on and help the injured person
After an accident with injuries, stopping immediately and helping the injured is both a legal duty and the top priority. Insurance claims, gathering evidence and settlements can come after helping and reporting.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 54
-
301.In Korea, when reporting an injury accident to the police, choose the 2 items that should be included.Choose 2
- Where the accident happened
- The other driver's occupation
- The purchase price of your car
- The number of injured people and how badly they are hurt
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① ④ — Where the accident happened / The number of injured people and how badly they are hurt
When reporting an accident, give the location, the number of casualties and the severity of injuries, what was damaged and how badly, and any other actions taken. The other person's job or the car's price are not part of the report.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 54

302.An injured person inside a crashed car complains of neck and back pain. There is no fire or risk of a secondary collision. What should you do?
- Pull them out right away and lay them on the ground
- Have them drink a lot of water
- Keep them from moving, call 119 and wait
- Help them stand up and try walking
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Keep them from moving, call 119 and wait
Moving someone who may have a neck or spinal injury can make the damage worse. Unless there is immediate danger such as fire or a secondary crash, keep them still and follow 119's instructions.
-
303.A minor fender-bender happens on an expressway. What is the most appropriate action to prevent a secondary accident?
- Stand next to the cars and argue about fault
- Sit in the car and wait for the insurance agent
- Spend a long time photographing the damage in the traffic lane
- Turn on the hazard lights, set up a warning triangle and move behind the guardrail
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Turn on the hazard lights, set up a warning triangle and move behind the guardrail
On expressways, many secondary accidents happen when following vehicles approach fast and hit the stopped cars or people. Warn others with hazard lights and a warning triangle, then move people to safety behind the guardrail and report from there.
-
304.While driving on an expressway, your car breaks down and you stop on the shoulder. Where should the driver and passengers be?
- Inside the car with seat belts on
- In a safe place away from the lanes, such as behind the guardrail
- Standing right behind the car waving
- In the lane, flagging down passing cars
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — In a safe place away from the lanes, such as behind the guardrail
Even a car on the shoulder can be hit by following traffic, so staying in or next to it is not safe. After warning others with hazard lights and a warning triangle, everyone should move away from the lanes, for example behind the guardrail.
-
305.When your car is stopped on the road due to a breakdown, where should the warning triangle be placed?
- Behind the car, far enough that approaching drivers can see it in advance
- On the front bumper of the car
- On the car's roof
- In the middle of the opposite lane
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Behind the car, far enough that approaching drivers can see it in advance
The warning triangle goes behind the broken-down car so approaching drivers can notice it early enough to avoid it. When placing it, walk along the edge rather than into the lane.
-
306.In Korea, your car breaks down and stops on an expressway at night. In addition to the warning triangle, what else should you do?
- Leave only the interior light on
- Turn off all headlights
- Set up a red flashing signal or flare that can be seen from far away
- Stand the triangle inside the car
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Set up a red flashing signal or flare that can be seen from far away
At night a warning triangle alone may be hard to see, so a red flashing signal, electric lamp or flare visible from a distance must also be set up. Keep the hazard lights on and move people to a safe place.
-
307.While driving in a tunnel, a vehicle catches fire ahead. Your car can still move and the road ahead is clear. What is the most appropriate action?
- Stop and watch from inside the car
- Reverse back to the entrance
- Close the windows and wait until the fire is out
- Carefully keep driving and exit the tunnel
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Carefully keep driving and exit the tunnel
If you can still drive during a tunnel fire, getting out of the tunnel is safest. Reversing in a tunnel risks hitting cars behind, and waiting in the car can leave you trapped in smoke.
-
308.A fire in a tunnel causes a jam, and you cannot drive out. What should you do?
- Lock the doors and wait in the car for rescue
- Pull onto the shoulder, turn off the engine, leave the key in the car and evacuate to an emergency exit
- Take the key with you to protect the car
- Stop in the middle of the tunnel and honk
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Pull onto the shoulder, turn off the engine, leave the key in the car and evacuate to an emergency exit
If you cannot drive out, pull to the shoulder, turn off the engine and leave the key so firefighters can move the car, then evacuate on foot to an emergency exit or cross-passage. Staying in the car is dangerous because of smoke.
-
309.What is the correct way to evacuate on foot during a tunnel fire?
- Move away from the smoke, staying low, toward an emergency exit or cross-passage
- Go toward the smoke to check the fire
- Hide under a car
- Get into the nearest car
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Move away from the smoke, staying low, toward an emergency exit or cross-passage
Smoke spreads fast and is toxic, so move away from it, keep low, cover your nose and mouth, and follow the emergency exit signs. Under a car or inside another car offers no escape from smoke.
-
310.While driving, smoke and a burning smell start coming from the gap around the hood. What is the most appropriate action?
- Hurry on to your destination
- Open the hood wide and look inside
- Stop in a safe place, turn off the engine, get everyone well away from the car and call 119
- Search the car for water
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Stop in a safe place, turn off the engine, get everyone well away from the car and call 119
If you suspect a vehicle fire, stop safely, turn off the engine, move everyone far away first, then report it. Suddenly opening the hood wide lets in air and can make the fire flare up.
-
311.You find a person collapsed on the street. They do not respond when you tap their shoulders and call out, and they are not breathing normally. What should you do next?
- Give them water to drink
- Call 119, ask someone to bring an AED (automated external defibrillator), and start chest compressions
- Watch for about 30 minutes until they wake up
- Carry them to a hospital on your back
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Call 119, ask someone to bring an AED (automated external defibrillator), and start chest compressions
No response and no normal breathing should be treated as cardiac arrest: call 119 immediately, ask for an AED and begin chest compressions. Brain damage progresses quickly while you wait, so do not delay.
-
312.When giving chest compressions to an adult, where should you place your hands?
- Just above the navel
- At the end of the left ribs
- Between the collarbones below the neck
- The center of the chest (lower half of the breastbone)
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — The center of the chest (lower half of the breastbone)
Place the heels of your stacked hands on the center of the chest, on the lower half of the breastbone, and press with straight arms. Pressing on the abdomen or rib ends is ineffective and can injure organs.
-
313.In adult CPR, what is the correct rate of chest compressions?
- 30-50 per minute
- 60-80 per minute
- 100-120 per minute
- 150-180 per minute
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — 100-120 per minute
Chest compressions should be given at 100 to 120 per minute without interruption. Too slow does not circulate enough blood, and too fast does not give the heart time to refill.
-
314.What is the appropriate depth of chest compressions for an adult?
- About 1 cm
- About 5 cm
- About 10 cm
- Depth does not matter
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — About 5 cm
For an adult, press hard enough to push the chest down about 5 cm, and let it rise fully after each compression. Compressions that are too shallow do not move enough blood.
-
315.In adult CPR with rescue breaths, what is the ratio of chest compressions to breaths?
- 30 compressions to 2 breaths
- 5 compressions to 1 breath
- 15 compressions to 5 breaths
- 2 compressions to 30 breaths
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — 30 compressions to 2 breaths
If you can give rescue breaths, repeat cycles of 30 compressions and 2 breaths. If breaths are difficult or you are not confident, continuous chest compressions alone are fine.
-
316.A bystander with no CPR training, not confident about giving rescue breaths, finds a person in cardiac arrest. What is the most appropriate action?
- Do nothing because they cannot give rescue breaths
- Only shake the person to wake them
- Massage the person's legs until paramedics arrive
- Call 119 and keep doing chest compressions alone until paramedics arrive
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Call 119 and keep doing chest compressions alone until paramedics arrive
Even without rescue breaths, continuous chest compressions greatly improve the chance of survival compared with doing nothing. The 119 dispatcher will guide you over the phone, so follow their instructions.
-
317.When an AED (automated external defibrillator) announces 'Analyzing heart rhythm', what should you do?
- Continue chest compressions
- Remove the pads and reattach them
- Take your hands off and make sure no one touches the patient
- Roll the patient onto their side
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Take your hands off and make sure no one touches the patient
Touching the patient while the AED analyzes or delivers a shock can make the analysis inaccurate or give you a shock. After the analysis, follow the voice prompts to press the shock button or resume compressions immediately.
-
318.When helping someone bleeding heavily from the arm after an accident, what is the first aid to give first?
- Press firmly directly on the wound with a clean cloth or gauze
- Rinse the wound under running water for a long time
- Cover the wound with soil
- Have the injured person run to a hospital
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Press firmly directly on the wound with a clean cloth or gauze
For external bleeding, the basic step is to press directly on the wound with a clean cloth or gauze. If blood soaks through, do not remove the cloth; add more on top, keep pressing and wait for 119.
-
319.In Korea, near an intersection, an ambulance with its siren and lights on approaches from behind. What should you do?
- Stop right where you are in the middle of the intersection
- Avoid the intersection and stop temporarily at the right edge of the road
- Speed up to get ahead of the ambulance
- Block the lane and turn on the hazard lights
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Avoid the intersection and stop temporarily at the right edge of the road
When an emergency vehicle approaches at or near an intersection, you must avoid the intersection and stop temporarily at the right edge of the road (or the left edge on a one-way road if the right would obstruct it). Stopping inside the intersection blocks the emergency vehicle's path.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 29
-
320.In Korea, you are driving on a road with two lanes in each direction, not at an intersection, when a fire engine approaches from behind with its siren on. What should you do?
- Close the gap to the car ahead so it cannot cut in
- Stop suddenly where you are
- Follow closely behind the fire engine
- Slow down and move out of its way so it can pass first
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Slow down and move out of its way so it can pass first
Away from intersections, you must yield the way so the emergency vehicle can pass first. Stopping suddenly can cause a rear-end collision, and tailgating an emergency vehicle is also dangerous.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 29
-
321.In Korea, which is correct about a fire engine returning to the station after putting out a fire, with its lights and siren off?
- All cars must stop and give way
- It may pass through red lights
- Since it is not on an emergency mission, it follows signals and traffic rules like an ordinary vehicle
- It may drive across the center line
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Since it is not on an emergency mission, it follows signals and traffic rules like an ordinary vehicle
An emergency vehicle's priority and special exemptions apply, in principle, when it is on an urgent mission with its lights and siren on. When returning after the mission, it follows traffic rules like any other vehicle.
-
322.While driving at high speed, a front tire suddenly bursts with a bang. What is the correct response?
- Grip the wheel firmly with both hands, avoid hard braking, slow down gradually and stop in a safe place
- Slam the brakes all the way at once
- Turn the wheel sharply the opposite way
- Accelerate to reach the shoulder quickly
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Grip the wheel firmly with both hands, avoid hard braking, slow down gradually and stop in a safe place
A blowout pulls the car to one side, so hold the wheel firmly to keep direction, lift off the accelerator and slow down gradually. Hard braking or sharp steering can make the car spin or roll over.
-
323.On a downhill road, the car does not slow down well even when you press the brake pedal. What is the most appropriate response?
- Turn off the engine
- Shift to neutral
- Shift to a lower gear for engine braking and apply the parking brake gradually
- Swing the steering wheel widely left and right
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Shift to a lower gear for engine braking and apply the parking brake gradually
If the brakes fail, use engine braking in a low gear and apply the parking brake gradually to slow down. Turning off the engine makes steering and brake assistance heavy, and neutral only increases speed.
-
324.Heavy rain begins to flood the road, and water is about to enter the car. What is the most appropriate action?
- Wait in the car until the water recedes
- Turn on the air conditioner and close the windows
- Drive quickly through the deeper water
- Get out of the car right away, before the water rises further, and move to higher ground
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Get out of the car right away, before the water rises further, and move to higher ground
As water rises, water pressure keeps the doors from opening, so get out early and move to higher ground. If a door will not open, break a window, or escape when the water levels inside and outside equalize and the door opens.
-
325.While driving, an earthquake makes the ground shake strongly. What should you do?
- Speed up to leave the area quickly
- Slow down gradually, stop on the right side of the road, and if you evacuate, leave the key in the car and go on foot
- Stop in the middle of an intersection
- Lock the doors and stay in the car no matter what
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Slow down gradually, stop on the right side of the road, and if you evacuate, leave the key in the car and go on foot
If an earthquake strikes while driving, avoid sudden stops; slow down gradually and pull over to the right side of the road. If you leave the car to evacuate, leave the key in it and the doors unlocked so it can be moved for emergency vehicles.
-
326.A minor accident with only property damage and no injuries happens on a busy road. What is an appropriate action to prevent a secondary accident?
- Record the scene with photos, then move the cars to a safe place
- Never move the cars until the insurance agent arrives
- Talk with the other driver in the middle of the lane
- Leave immediately without any record
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Record the scene with photos, then move the cars to a safe place
For a minor accident without injuries, it is best to record the positions and damage with photos or video, then move the cars to a safe place such as the shoulder to prevent secondary accidents and congestion. Do not leave without exchanging contact details.
-
327.On a wet road, the rear of the car begins to slide to the right. What is the generally recommended control action?
- Brake hard and steer sharply to the left
- Press the accelerator all the way
- Avoid hard braking and steer gently toward the side the rear is sliding (right) to straighten the car
- Take your hands off the wheel
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Avoid hard braking and steer gently toward the side the rear is sliding (right) to straighten the car
When the rear wheels skid, the usual technique is to avoid hard braking and steer smoothly in the direction the rear is sliding to straighten the car. Hard braking or steering sharply the other way tends to make the car spin.
-
328.You see fuel leaking from under a crashed car. What should you do?
- Light a lighter to check the fuel
- Wait nearby while smoking
- Try restarting the crashed car
- Keep anything that could spark away, turn off the engine if possible, move people to a distance and report it
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Keep anything that could spark away, turn off the engine if possible, move people to a distance and report it
Leaked fuel can ignite from even a small spark, so keep ignition sources away, turn off the engine if possible, move people to a safe distance and notify 119. Restarting the engine can also cause a spark.
-
329.In Korea, after you call 119 to report a person in cardiac arrest, the dispatcher tells you not to hang up. What should you do?
- Hang up and just wait for the ambulance
- Keep the call going on speakerphone and do chest compressions as the dispatcher guides you
- Hang up to contact the patient's family first
- Put the patient in your car and drive to the hospital yourself
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Keep the call going on speakerphone and do chest compressions as the dispatcher guides you
The 119 dispatcher guides you over the phone on how and how fast to do chest compressions. Keeping the call on speakerphone lets you press with both hands while listening, so you can help effectively until paramedics arrive.
-
330.In Korea, at an accident scene an injured person is unconscious but breathing normally. Spinal injury is not suspected, and you are waiting for 119. What position is appropriate?
- Lay them flat on their back with the head raised on a pillow
- Turn them onto their side in the recovery position and keep checking their breathing
- Sit them up and pat their back
- Lay them face down with the face on the ground
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Turn them onto their side in the recovery position and keep checking their breathing
If someone is unconscious but breathing normally, the side-lying recovery position keeps the airway open and stops vomit from blocking it. Keep checking their breathing; if it stops or becomes abnormal, start chest compressions immediately. Lying flat with the head raised can let the tongue or vomit block the airway.
-
331.In Korea, where are the two AED pads placed on an adult? (General rule when there is no picture guide on the pads)
- On top of both shoulders
- Above the navel and in the middle of the back
- Just below the right collarbone, and on the left side below the nipple (mid-armpit line)
- On the inside of both wrists
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Just below the right collarbone, and on the left side below the nipple (mid-armpit line)
For an adult, one pad goes just below the right collarbone and the other on the left side of the chest below the nipple, so the current passes through the heart. Most pads show the placement in a picture, so follow it. Wipe off any sweat or water first.
-
332.In Korea, an AED has delivered one shock. What should be done next?
- Restart chest compressions immediately and follow the AED's next prompts
- Do nothing and wait for the person to wake up
- Remove the pads and switch the AED off
- Sit the person up
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Restart chest compressions immediately and follow the AED's next prompts
Right after a shock, resume chest compressions without delay. The AED reanalyzes the heart rhythm at intervals, so leave the pads on and repeat compressions and analysis as prompted. Continue until paramedics arrive or the person wakes and breathes normally.
-
333.In Korea, in a rest-area restaurant an adult suddenly grabs their throat with both hands while eating and cannot speak or cough, but is conscious. What is the appropriate first aid?
- Have them drink water to wash the food down
- Push your fingers deep into their mouth to dig it out blindly
- Lay them on the floor and begin chest compressions
- Ask someone to call 119, stand behind them, and thrust a fist firmly inward and upward between the navel and the breastbone (abdominal thrusts)
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Ask someone to call 119, stand behind them, and thrust a fist firmly inward and upward between the navel and the breastbone (abdominal thrusts)
Being unable to speak or cough while clutching the throat signals a complete airway blockage. For a conscious adult, stand behind them and give abdominal thrusts, pushing a fist inward and upward between the navel and the breastbone, until the object comes out or they lose consciousness. Water or blind finger sweeps can push the object deeper; if they become unconscious, start chest compressions then.
-
334.In Korea, hot coolant splashed onto the back of your hand and burned it. What is the most appropriate first aid?
- Hold ice directly on the burn for a long time
- Cool it thoroughly under cool running water and do not pop any blisters
- Pop the blisters with a needle to drain them
- Apply soybean paste or toothpaste
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Cool it thoroughly under cool running water and do not pop any blisters
Cool a burn right away under cool (not icy) running water for a good while so the heat does not spread deeper. Blisters act as a protective cover against infection, so do not break them; cover lightly with clean gauze. Ice applied directly can damage skin further, like frostbite, and folk remedies raise the risk of infection.
-
335.In Korea, an injured person in an accident appears to have a broken leg bone. Paramedics will take a while. What is the appropriate first aid?
- Force the broken bone back into place
- Stand them up to see whether they can walk
- Keep the injured part still and, if needed, immobilize it with a splint covering the joints above and below
- Massage the leg to help circulation
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Keep the injured part still and, if needed, immobilize it with a splint covering the joints above and below
With a suspected fracture, the basic rule is to keep the injured part from moving. When splinting, include the joints above and below the injury. Forcing the bone back, standing the person up or massaging can injure blood vessels and nerves and make things worse.
-
336.In Korea, after a minor collision a passenger has a nosebleed with no other serious injury. What is the appropriate first aid?
- Keep them seated, lean the head slightly forward, and pinch the soft part of the nose firmly
- Tilt the head back so the blood stops flowing
- Lay them flat and tilt the head back
- Have them blow their nose hard to clear the blood
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Keep them seated, lean the head slightly forward, and pinch the soft part of the nose firmly
For a nosebleed, sit and lean the head slightly forward, then pinch the soft part of the nose and keep pressing for a while. Tilting the head back sends blood down the throat, where it may be swallowed or enter the airway. If it does not stop for a long time, or the head was struck hard, seek medical care.
-
337.In Korea, a motorcyclist down after a crash is still wearing a helmet, is conscious and breathing normally, and complains of neck pain. What should you do?
- Take the helmet off right away so they can breathe easily
- Sit them up to check their condition
- Turn their neck side to side to find the injury
- Do not remove the helmet; keep them still and call 119
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Do not remove the helmet; keep them still and call 119
Neck pain may mean a spinal injury, so as long as they are breathing normally, the rule is not to remove the helmet or move them. Forcing the helmet off can bend the neck and worsen the damage. If they are not breathing and need airway care or CPR, that takes priority.
-
338.In Korea, at a rest stop someone has collapsed and is having a seizure with whole-body shaking. What should you do?
- Hold their arms and legs down hard to stop the seizure
- Move dangerous objects away, protect the head, and do not restrain them or put anything in their mouth
- Put a towel or your fingers in their mouth so they do not bite their tongue
- Pour cold water on their face to bring them round
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Move dangerous objects away, protect the head, and do not restrain them or put anything in their mouth
During a seizure, clear away hard or sharp objects and put something soft under the head. Restraining the person or putting something in their mouth can cause fractures, choking or injury to the helper. Call 119 if the seizure lasts long, seems to be a first seizure, or the person does not regain consciousness after it stops.
-
339.In Korea, on a jammed road in midsummer, someone who stood outside their car for a long time is dizzy, their skin is hot, and they are becoming confused. What should you do?
- Make them drink lots of water even though they are confused
- Cover them with a blanket in the sun
- Call 119, move them to shade or a cool place, loosen their clothing and cool their body
- Let them sleep it off
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Call 119, move them to shade or a cool place, loosen their clothing and cool their body
Hot skin and confusion in the heat may be heatstroke, a medical emergency. Call 119, move them somewhere cool, loosen their clothing and cool them with wet towels or fanning. Forcing water on someone who is confused can send it into the airway, so avoid that.
-
340.In Korea, right after a traffic accident, what should you do first about your dashcam footage?
- Save (back up) the accident footage or remove and keep the memory card so it is not overwritten
- Leave it, since the police will find it themselves
- Delete anything that looks bad for you
- Check it after the insurance claim is settled
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Save (back up) the accident footage or remove and keep the memory card so it is not overwritten
Dashcams overwrite the oldest footage when the memory fills, so save the clip or remove and keep the card right after an accident. The footage is important evidence of how the accident happened. Deliberately deleting potential evidence is wrong and can put you in a worse position if a dispute arises.
-
341.In Korea, after an accident with no injuries, you want to photograph the scene before moving the cars. What is the best way to do it?
- Take one close-up of the damage to your own car
- Photograph only the other driver's face
- At night, do not take photos
- After making the scene safe, take wide shots showing both cars' positions with the lanes and signals, plus close-ups of the damage from several angles
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — After making the scene safe, take wide shots showing both cars' positions with the lanes and signals, plus close-ups of the damage from several angles
The scene disappears once the cars are moved, so take wide shots showing both cars' positions and directions with the lanes, signals and signs, and close-ups of the damage and any debris or marks on the road. Take them from outside the traffic lanes after securing the scene with hazard lights and a warning triangle. A single damage photo or a face photo says little about how it happened.
-
342.In Korea, you were the victim of a hit-and-run, and the offending vehicle was never found. Which way of getting compensation is correct?
- Without finding the offender, no compensation is possible
- You can claim through the government-run Motor Vehicle Accident Compensation Security Program
- The police station pays compensation directly
- It is handled through the victim's own penalty points
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — You can claim through the government-run Motor Vehicle Accident Compensation Security Program
In Korea victims of hit-and-runs where the vehicle is unknown, or of accidents caused by uninsured vehicles, can claim compensation within set limits through the government's motor vehicle accident compensation security program. Check with the relevant agency for coverage and procedures. The police investigate but do not pay compensation.

343.In Korea, your car has gone into water and is sinking, and the doors will not open because of outside water pressure. With an emergency escape hammer, where should you strike?
- The center of the windshield
- The center of the sunroof
- A corner of a side window
- The trunk lid
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — A corner of a side window
Side windows are often tempered glass that shatters into small pieces, and they break more easily when struck near a corner than in the middle. The windshield is laminated glass and does not break easily with a hammer. Without any tool, the door will open once the water levels inside and outside are nearly equal, so stay calm, wait and push the door open.
-
344.In Korea, you are using a car fire extinguisher on a small fire just starting. Which method is correct?
- Pull the safety pin, aim the nozzle at the fire, squeeze the handle, and with the wind at your back sweep the spray across the base of the fire
- Squeeze the handle hard with the pin still in
- Aim at the very top of the flames
- Stand facing into the wind while spraying
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Pull the safety pin, aim the nozzle at the fire, squeeze the handle, and with the wind at your back sweep the spray across the base of the fire
Pull the pin, aim the nozzle at the fire and squeeze the handle. Sweep the spray across the base of what is burning, not the top of the flames, and keep the wind at your back so powder and smoke do not blow onto you. If the fire grows, do not push it; move well away from the car and call 119.

345.In Korea, on a summer day in a large store's parking lot, a small child is alone in a locked parked car, sweating and crying. No guardian is in sight. What should you do first?
- Walk on, assuming the guardian will be back soon
- Wait several tens of minutes until the owner is found
- Just keep asking the child whether they can open the door
- Call 119 (or 112) immediately, describe the situation and follow instructions
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Call 119 (or 112) immediately, describe the situation and follow instructions
In summer a closed car heats up dramatically in a short time and is very dangerous for children. Do not delay: call 119 or 112, give the location and the child's condition, and follow the responders' instructions. Alerting people nearby or store staff to find the guardian at the same time speeds things up.

346.In Korea, your car broke down on an expressway and you barely managed to stop on the shoulder. Which statement about the Korea Expressway Corporation's emergency towing service is correct?
- Towing service is not available on expressways
- There is a free service that tows broken-down cars stopped on the main road or shoulder to a nearby safe place such as a rest area or tollgate
- If you call your insurer, you can wait inside the car regardless of the risk of a secondary crash
- You must push the car to the next exit yourself
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — There is a free service that tows broken-down cars stopped on the main road or shoulder to a nearby safe place such as a rest area or tollgate
The Korea Expressway Corporation runs a free emergency towing service that moves cars stopped on the expressway, for example by a breakdown, to a nearby safe area such as a rest area or tollgate (check the corporation's guidance for eligible vehicles and details). While waiting, use hazard lights and a warning triangle and stay in a safe place beyond the guardrail, not in the car.

347.In Korea, heavy snow has blocked the road and you must wait a long time in your car. What is the most important caution when running the engine for the heater?
- Shut every window tightly to keep the heat in
- Turn the heater to maximum and sleep to save fuel
- Check that snow is not blocking the exhaust pipe, clear the snow around it, and open a window slightly now and then for ventilation
- Pile snow around the exhaust to block the wind
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Check that snow is not blocking the exhaust pipe, clear the snow around it, and open a window slightly now and then for ventilation
If the exhaust pipe is blocked by snow while the engine runs, exhaust gas can enter the car and cause carbon monoxide poisoning. Clear snow from around the exhaust often, crack a window for fresh air, and do not fall asleep with the heater running. To save fuel, run the engine intermittently and keep warm with blankets.

348.In Korea, you are pressing gauze firmly on a wound to stop bleeding, but blood is soaking through. What should you do?
- Do not remove the first gauze; add more gauze or cloth on top and keep pressing firmly
- Remove the soaked gauze and check the wound
- Take your hand off and wait for the bleeding to stop by itself
- Sprinkle dirt on the wound to clot the blood
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Do not remove the first gauze; add more gauze or cloth on top and keep pressing firmly
If blood soaks through, removing the first gauze pulls off the clot that has begun to form and the bleeding restarts. Add gauze or cloth on top, keep pressing firmly and wait for 119. Stopping pressure or putting foreign material on the wound makes bleeding and infection worse.
-
349.In Korea, right after a minor rear-end collision you felt no pain. The next morning your neck and shoulders become stiff and sore. What is the best response?
- Put up with it, assuming it is unrelated since there was no pain on the day
- Just take painkillers and see how it goes
- Contact the other driver and settle immediately in cash
- See a doctor and inform the insurer, among others, that the symptoms relate to the accident
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — See a doctor and inform the insurer, among others, that the symptoms relate to the accident
Neck and back injuries from rear-end collisions often go unnoticed at first and appear later. If symptoms develop, get examined and let the insurer know the symptoms are related to the accident. Ignoring them or settling hastily can make treatment and compensation harder later.

In Korea, personal mobility devices require a motorized bicycle license or a higher license (such as a Class 1 or Class 2 Ordinary). Riding without one is punished as unlicensed driving.
-
351.In Korea, what is the age requirement for riding a personal mobility device?
- 13 or older
- 16 or older (the age at which a motorized bicycle license can be obtained)
- 18 or older
- 20 or older
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — 16 or older (the age at which a motorized bicycle license can be obtained)
Riding a personal mobility device requires a motorized bicycle license or higher, which can be obtained from age 16. So anyone under 16 cannot ride one.
-
352.In Korea, what is the passenger capacity of an electric kick scooter?
- 1 person
- 2 people
- 3 people
- 1 adult and 1 child
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — 1 person
An electric kick scooter has a capacity of one person, so riding two-up is a violation. With two riders the balance is upset and the braking distance grows, making falls more likely.
-
353.In Korea, you rent a shared electric kick scooter for a short trip. Which statement about helmets is correct?
- No helmet is needed for a short distance
- No helmet is needed on a bicycle path
- A helmet is needed only at night
- The rider must wear a helmet regardless of distance
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — The rider must wear a helmet regardless of distance
Personal mobility riders must wear protective gear (a helmet) on the road regardless of distance or place. Head injuries are common in falls, so short trips are no exception.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 50
-
354.In Korea, where should an electric kick scooter generally travel?
- On the sidewalk where people walk
- In the leftmost lane of the roadway
- On the bicycle path if there is one; otherwise at the right edge of the roadway
- On the crosswalk
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — On the bicycle path if there is one; otherwise at the right edge of the roadway
Personal mobility devices are classed with bicycles, so they use a bicycle path where one exists and otherwise keep to the right edge of the road. Riding on the sidewalk is prohibited in principle.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 13-2
-
355.In Korea, choose the 2 correct requirements for a personal mobility device under the Road Traffic Act.Choose 2
- Top speed below 25 km/h
- Vehicle weight below 30 kg
- Top speed below 50 km/h
- Vehicle weight below 50 kg
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① ② — Top speed below 25 km/h / Vehicle weight below 30 kg
A personal mobility device is a designated type of motorized bicycle (such as an electric kick scooter) whose motor stops working at 25 km/h or above and whose weight is under 30 kg. 50 km/h and 50 kg are not the standards.
-
356.In Korea, while riding a bicycle you want to use a pedestrian crosswalk that has no bicycle crossing. What is the correct method?
- Ride across quickly
- Ride across, weaving between pedestrians
- Cross regardless of the signal
- Get off and walk or carry the bicycle across
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Get off and walk or carry the bicycle across
When riders of bicycles or personal mobility devices use a crosswalk, they must get off and walk the device or carry it. Riding across risks hitting pedestrians, and in an accident the rider may not be protected as a pedestrian.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 13-2
-
357.In Korea, someone who drank at a work dinner wants to ride a shared electric kick scooter home. Which statement is correct?
- It is fine because a scooter is not a car
- Drunk riding is also prohibited on scooters and is punished
- It is fine on the sidewalk
- It is fine if ridden slowly
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Drunk riding is also prohibited on scooters and is punished
The ban on drunk driving covers personal mobility devices as well as cars, so riding after drinking is punished. These devices require balance, so the risk of falling is also high after drinking.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 44
-
358.In Korea, which statement about riding a bicycle after drinking is correct?
- Bicycles are not covered by the law
- It is allowed on bicycle paths
- Drunk riding is prohibited on bicycles too and is punishable
- It is allowed in daytime
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Drunk riding is prohibited on bicycles too and is punishable
The Road Traffic Act also prohibits cyclists from riding while drunk, and violations are punished. Whatever the time or place, if you have been drinking it is best to walk the bicycle.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 44
-
359.In Korea, two people are about to ride a motorcycle on the road. Which is correct about helmets?
- Both the rider and the passenger must wear helmets
- Only the rider needs one
- Only the passenger needs one
- No helmet is needed below 30 km/h
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Both the rider and the passenger must wear helmets
Riders of motorcycles and mopeds must wear a helmet and make their passenger wear one too. A passenger faces the same risk of head injury in a fall.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 50
-
360.In Korea, which is correct about an ordinary motorcycle (not an emergency vehicle) using an expressway?
- It may use it if its engine is large
- It may use only the rightmost lane
- It may use it only at night
- It may not use the expressway
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — It may not use the expressway
In Korea, only cars may use expressways and motorways; motorcycles are allowed only when they are emergency vehicles. Ordinary motorcycles are barred regardless of engine size, lane or time.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 63
-
361.In Korea, what engine-displacement limit makes a combustion-engine two-wheeler a motorized bicycle (moped) under the Road Traffic Act?
- 50 cc or less
- 125 cc or less
- 250 cc or less
- 500 cc or less
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — 125 cc or less
Two-wheelers of 125 cc or less (or electric ones with a rated output of 11 kW or less) are motorized bicycles. Two-wheelers over 125 cc are motorcycles and require a Class 2 Small license.
-
362.In Korea, what license is needed to ride a 250 cc motorcycle?
- Motorized bicycle license
- Class 2 Ordinary license
- Class 2 Small license
- No license is needed
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Class 2 Small license
Motorcycles over 125 cc require a Class 2 Small license. A Class 1 or 2 Ordinary license or a motorized bicycle license only covers two-wheelers up to 125 cc.
-
363.In Korea, what can a person holding only a Class 2 Ordinary license drive?
- A motorized bicycle (including personal mobility devices such as electric kick scooters)
- A 250 cc motorcycle
- A 36-seat large bus
- A large tow truck
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — A motorized bicycle (including personal mobility devices such as electric kick scooters)
A Class 2 Ordinary license covers motorized bicycles, including personal mobility devices, along with passenger cars and similar vehicles. Motorcycles over 125 cc, large buses and tow trucks each require a different license.
-
364.In Korea, what is correct when riding a bicycle on the road at night?
- No lights are needed where there are streetlights
- Ride while shining a phone flashlight
- Wear black clothes so you do not stand out
- Turn on a headlight and tail light, or wear a light-emitting device such as a reflective band
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Turn on a headlight and tail light, or wear a light-emitting device such as a reflective band
Cyclists on the road at night must turn on a headlight and tail light, or wear a light-emitting device such as a glow band. This is not only to see ahead but also so that cars can notice the bicycle.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 50
-
365.In Korea, choose the 2 cases in which a bicycle may use the sidewalk.Choose 2
- When the roadway is jammed and you want to go faster
- When a child or an older person is riding the bicycle
- When a safety sign permits bicycles on that sidewalk
- Early in the morning when there are few pedestrians
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② ③ — When a child or an older person is riding the bicycle / When a safety sign permits bicycles on that sidewalk
Bicycles generally use the roadway, but they may use the sidewalk when ridden by children, older people or people with physical disabilities, when a safety sign allows it, or when the roadway is hard to use because of damage or similar reasons. Traffic jams or few pedestrians are not valid reasons.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 13-2
-
366.In Korea, an older person rides a bicycle on the sidewalk as permitted. What is the correct way to ride?
- Ride fast anywhere on the sidewalk
- Ring the bell to make pedestrians move aside
- Ride slowly on the roadway side of the sidewalk's center or the designated part, and stop temporarily if it would obstruct pedestrians
- Ride close to the buildings on the innermost side
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Ride slowly on the roadway side of the sidewalk's center or the designated part, and stop temporarily if it would obstruct pedestrians
Even when sidewalk riding is allowed, a bicycle must move slowly on the roadway side of the sidewalk's center or the part designated by a safety sign, and stop temporarily when it would obstruct pedestrians. Remember that the sidewalk belongs to pedestrians.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 13-2
-
367.In Korea, two friends are each riding a bicycle on the roadway. What is the correct way to ride?
- Ride in single file, one behind the other
- Ride side by side to chat
- One rides in the center of the lane and the other at the edge
- Take turns overtaking each other
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Ride in single file, one behind the other
Except where a safety sign allows it, cyclists must not ride two or more abreast on the roadway. Riding in single file lets cars approaching from behind pass safely.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 13-2
-
368.In Korea, you are riding a bicycle and want to turn left at an intersection with traffic lights. What is the correct method?
- Enter the leftmost lane and turn left with the cars
- Cut diagonally across the middle of the intersection
- Ride up onto the sidewalk and go around
- Move to the right edge in advance, go slowly, and turn by going straight twice along the edge of the intersection
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Move to the right edge in advance, go slowly, and turn by going straight twice along the edge of the intersection
When turning left at an intersection, a bicycle must move to the right edge of the road in advance, go slowly and use the edge of the intersection (a so-called hook turn). Turning from the left lane like a car or cutting diagonally across is very dangerous.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 25
-
369.In Korea, a bicycle crossing is marked next to a pedestrian crosswalk. What is the correct way for a cyclist to cross?
- Always get off and walk the bicycle across the pedestrian crosswalk
- Ride across on the bicycle crossing
- Cross on the bicycle crossing regardless of the signal
- Cross on the line between the crosswalk and the bicycle crossing
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Ride across on the bicycle crossing
A bicycle crossing is marked specifically so that cyclists can cross the road while riding, so you may ride across following the signal. On an ordinary pedestrian crosswalk without one, you must get off and walk the bicycle.
-
370.In Korea, when riding a bicycle on a road without a bicycle path, where should you ride?
- At the left edge, facing oncoming traffic
- In the middle of the lane
- Close to the right edge of the road
- Along the center line
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Close to the right edge of the road
Without a bicycle path, a bicycle must keep close to the right edge of the road. Riding against traffic on the left creates a high risk of head-on collisions.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 13-2
-
371.In Korea, on a road with one lane in each direction, a car wants to pass a bicycle ahead. What is the correct way to drive?
- Slow down, leave plenty of side clearance and pass when it is safe
- Sound the horn long to make it move aside
- Pass quickly, squeezing right next to the bicycle
- Tailgate the bicycle to pressure the rider
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Slow down, leave plenty of side clearance and pass when it is safe
Bicycles fall easily from small impacts and can wobble even from the wind of a passing car, so slow down and give plenty of side clearance when passing. Startling the rider with the horn or squeezing close invites accidents.
-
372.In Korea, which statement about bicycle helmets is correct?
- Only children need to wear them
- They are not needed on bicycle-only paths
- They are needed only at night
- When riding on the road, both the rider and any passenger are required to wear them
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — When riding on the road, both the rider and any passenger are required to wear them
The Road Traffic Act requires cyclists to wear a helmet on the road and to have any passenger wear one as well. Regardless of age, type of road or time, protecting your head is the safe choice.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 50
-
373.In Korea, you are about to ride an electric kick scooter on the road at night. Which statement about lights is correct?
- Scooters have no lighting obligation
- You must turn on a headlight and tail light, or wear a light-emitting device such as a reflective band
- Turn them off on roads with streetlights
- Turning on only hazard lights is enough
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — You must turn on a headlight and tail light, or wear a light-emitting device such as a reflective band
Riders of bicycles and personal mobility devices must turn on a headlight and tail light, or wear a light-emitting device, when on the road at night. Scooters are small and especially hard to see in the dark.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 50
-
374.In Korea, a 12-year-old child wants to ride a shared electric kick scooter. What is the correct decision for the parent?
- Let the child ride if the parent runs alongside
- Let the child ride on a roadway next to a park
- Do not let the child ride a personal mobility device on the road
- Let the child ride as long as they wear a helmet
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Do not let the child ride a personal mobility device on the road
Personal mobility devices require a motorized bicycle license or higher, which is available only from age 16, and the Road Traffic Act also prohibits guardians from letting a child ride one on the road. Wearing a helmet or having the parent nearby does not change this.
-
375.In Korea, an adult university student with no license rents a shared electric kick scooter and rides it on the road. What is this?
- Fine, because the student is an adult
- Fine, because the student signed up for the sharing app
- Fine, if a helmet was worn
- Unlicensed driving, which is punishable
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Unlicensed driving, which is punishable
Personal mobility devices require a motorized bicycle license or higher regardless of age, so riding without one is unlicensed driving. Signing up for an app or wearing a helmet does not replace a license.
-
376.In Korea, you are about to turn right at an intersection in a car. A bicycle or motorcycle may be coming straight from behind on your right. What should you do?
- Check behind on the right with the side mirror and over your shoulder, and let any bicycle or motorcycle going straight pass first
- Turn right away once the turn signal is on
- Ignore bicycles because they are not cars
- Speed up to turn quickly
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Check behind on the right with the side mirror and over your shoulder, and let any bicycle or motorcycle going straight pass first
When turning right, the area behind on your right is a blind spot, so collisions with bicycles or motorcycles going straight are common. Check with the mirrors and by turning your head, and let any bicycle or motorcycle going straight pass first.
-
377.When riding a motorcycle, what is the most appropriate way to be easily seen by other drivers?
- Ride in the blind spot right behind the car ahead
- Keep the headlight on even in daytime and wear bright clothing or reflective material
- Weave quickly between cars
- Ride with the headlight off at night
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Keep the headlight on even in daytime and wear bright clothing or reflective material
Motorcycles are small and other drivers tend to spot them late, so keeping the headlight on in daytime and wearing bright or reflective gear lowers the risk of a crash. Staying in blind spots or weaving between cars is dangerous.
-
378.In Korea, a motorcycle rider holds a smartphone and operates the navigation screen while riding. Which statement is correct?
- Motorcycles have no restrictions on phone use
- Briefly is fine even when not stopped at a signal
- It violates the ban on using a phone while driving
- It is fine if the rider can steer with one hand
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — It violates the ban on using a phone while driving
The ban on using a phone while driving also applies to motorcycle riders. Motorcycles need both hands on the handlebars to keep balance and brake, so one-handed riding is especially dangerous.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 49
-
379.You are about to ride an electric kick scooter down a long downhill road. What is the safest way?
- Speed up to enjoy the speed
- Ride down while looking at a phone with one hand
- Drag your foot on the ground to slow down
- Hold the handlebars with both hands and slow down in advance as you go down
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Hold the handlebars with both hands and slow down in advance as you go down
Electric kick scooters have small wheels, so at speed even a small bump or groove can cause a fall. Hold the handlebars with both hands and reduce speed before the descent; dragging a foot to stop throws off your balance and is dangerous.
-
380.In Korea, you are riding a bicycle and want to turn left. Without turn signal lights, what is the legal hand signal?
- Extend the left arm downward at 45 degrees and move it up and down
- Extend the left arm straight out horizontally to the left side of the body
- Bend the left arm at the elbow with the hand pointing up
- Raise both arms above the head
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Extend the left arm straight out horizontally to the left side of the body
In Korea, to turn left or move to the left you extend the left arm horizontally out to the left of the vehicle (your body). A left arm bent upward signals a right turn, and an arm held down at 45 degrees moving up and down signals slowing. Keep a firm grip on the handlebar with the other hand while signaling.
-
381.In Korea, a cyclist extends the left arm out to the left, bends it at the elbow and holds the hand upright. What does this hand signal mean?
- Left turn
- Stop
- Right turn (moving to the right)
- An invitation to overtake
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Right turn (moving to the right)
In Korea a left arm held out to the left, bent at the elbow with the hand up, signals a right turn or a move to the right (extending the right arm horizontally to the right is another way). A left turn is the left arm held horizontal, and stopping is an arm held down at 45 degrees. When you see a hand signal, slow down and do not obstruct the move.
-
382.In Korea, you are about to stop your bicycle. What hand signal tells following vehicles you are stopping?
- Extend the arm out from the body and down at 45 degrees
- Extend the left arm horizontally and wave it back and forth
- Raise the right arm high above the head
- Wave the hand at shoulder height with the palm facing back
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — Extend the arm out from the body and down at 45 degrees
In Korea the stop signal is an arm extended out from the vehicle (your body) and held down at 45 degrees. Moving the arm up and down in that position means you are slowing. Signal before you stop so following traffic has time to react.
-
383.In Korea, a rider of a 50 cc scooter (a motorized bicycle, not a personal mobility device) wants to ride on a bicycle road. Which statement is correct?
- All motorized bicycles must use bicycle roads
- It may use bicycle roads only during commuting hours
- It may use bicycle roads if it stays at or below 25 km/h
- Bicycle roads are for bicycles and personal mobility devices, so it may not ride there
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Bicycle roads are for bicycles and personal mobility devices, so it may not ride there
In Korea bicycle roads are for bicycles and personal mobility devices. A motorized bicycle that is not a personal mobility device, such as a 50 cc scooter, may not use them and must ride on the roadway. Riding slowly does not make it permitted.
-
384.In Korea, which is correct about an electric bicycle whose motor assists only while you pedal, cuts out at 25 km/h or more, and weighs under 30 kg?
- A motorized bicycle license is required
- It is treated as a bicycle and can be ridden without a driver's license
- It must be registered as a car
- It must ride only in the middle of the roadway
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — It is treated as a bicycle and can be ridden without a driver's license
In Korea a pedal-assist e-bike whose motor stops working at 25 km/h or more and that weighs under 30 kg is treated as a bicycle: no license is needed and it may use bicycle roads. As with any bicycle, wear a helmet and never ride after drinking. Models that run on a throttle alone may be classified differently.
-
385.In Korea, you want to ride on the road an electric bicycle that can move on its throttle alone without pedaling (top speed under 25 km/h, weight under 30 kg). Which statement is correct?
- It has pedals, so it is the same as a regular bicycle and needs no license
- Anyone aged 13 or older can ride it without a license
- Because it can move on motor power alone, it is a personal mobility device and requires at least a motorized bicycle license
- Only a Class 1 car license allows riding it
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — Because it can move on motor power alone, it is a personal mobility device and requires at least a motorized bicycle license
In Korea a bicycle that can move on motor power alone is classified, if it meets the speed and weight limits, as a personal mobility device like an electric kick scooter. It therefore requires at least a motorized bicycle license and must follow personal mobility rules such as wearing a helmet and carrying one rider only. Having pedals does not make it a bicycle.
-
386.In Korea, you want to turn left at a signalized intersection on a 300 cc motorcycle. What is the correct way?
- The same way as a car: move toward the center line (left-turn lane) in advance and turn on the signal
- Like a bicycle, keep to the right edge and go straight twice to turn
- Walk it across using the crosswalk
- Turn left whenever no cars are coming, regardless of the signal
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — The same way as a car: move toward the center line (left-turn lane) in advance and turn on the signal
In Korea a motorcycle counts as a motor vehicle, so it turns left like a car: get into the left-turn lane in advance and turn on the signal, using the inside of the intersection's center. Hugging the right edge and going straight twice is the method set for bicycles and personal mobility devices. Crosswalks are for pedestrians.
-
387.In Korea, you want to enter a motorway (automobile-only road) on a 500 cc motorcycle that is not an emergency vehicle. Which statement is correct?
- It is allowed above 250 cc
- It is allowed if you wear a helmet
- It is allowed if you keep to the minimum speed
- As with expressways, motorcycles may not use automobile-only roads
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — As with expressways, motorcycles may not use automobile-only roads
In Korea motorcycles may not travel on or cross expressways or automobile-only roads unless they are emergency vehicles. A large engine, wearing a helmet or keeping to the speed limits does not change this. Always check the no-entry signs and vehicle notices before the on-ramp.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 63
-
388.In Korea, a delivery motorcycle rider got onto the sidewalk and rode along it because the roadway was jammed. Which statement is correct?
- Riding on the sidewalk is fine if there are no pedestrians
- Motorcycles are vehicles too, so they must not use the sidewalk; it is a violation
- Sidewalk riding is allowed at low speed
- Motorcycles making deliveries are exempt
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Motorcycles are vehicles too, so they must not use the sidewalk; it is a violation
In Korea motorcycles are vehicles, so where sidewalks and roadways are separated they must use the roadway. Only when crossing a sidewalk to enter or leave a place off the road, such as a building, may they cross after stopping just before the sidewalk and without obstructing pedestrians. No pedestrians, low speed or making a delivery does not permit riding along the sidewalk.
Legal basis: Road Traffic Act Article 13
-
389.In Korea, you have finished riding a shared electric kick scooter and want to return it. Where is the best place to leave it?
- On tactile paving for visually impaired people
- Right at the entrance to a crosswalk
- In a designated parking area or at the edge of the sidewalk where it does not block pedestrians
- Directly in front of a fire hydrant or bus stop
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — In a designated parking area or at the edge of the sidewalk where it does not block pedestrians
Leaving a scooter on tactile paving, at a crosswalk entrance, or in front of a hydrant or bus stop endangers pedestrians, especially visually impaired people and wheelchair users, and depending on the local government it may be towed immediately. Park it upright in a designated area or where it does not obstruct passage.
-
390.In Korea, from what age can you obtain a Class 2 Small license, which allows motorcycles over 125 cc?
- 18 or older
- 16 or older
- 19 or older
- 21 or older
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — 18 or older
In Korea you can apply for a Class 2 Small license from age 18. The license available from 16 is the motorized bicycle license, which covers only motorcycles up to 125 cc and personal mobility devices. Age 19 is the threshold for licenses such as Class 1 Large and Special.

391.In Korea, you have just bought a motorcycle for deliveries and commuting. What must you do before riding it on the road?
- Insurance is not needed because it is not a car
- Only those who want one need a license plate
- You can get insurance after an accident
- File a use report, mount the license plate, and take out compulsory (liability) insurance
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — File a use report, mount the license plate, and take out compulsory (liability) insurance
In Korea a motorcycle must be reported for use and carry a license plate, and it must have compulsory insurance before it can be ridden on the road. Riding without it is punishable and makes compensating victims difficult if there is an accident. Insurance only helps if it is in place before an accident.

392.In Korea, what is the best way to wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle?
- You may unfasten the chin strap when it is hot
- Choose a size that fits, wear it low so the forehead is covered, and fasten the chin strap firmly
- For short trips, just rest it on your head
- Wear it loosely on top of a cap
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Choose a size that fits, wear it low so the forehead is covered, and fasten the chin strap firmly
A helmet protects the head and stays on in a crash only if it fits, sits low and has the chin strap firmly fastened. With the strap undone or the helmet just perched on top, it comes off on impact and is as good as not wearing one. A helmet that is too big or worn over a cap also fails to do its job.

393.In Korea, while driving you notice that a lane designated as a 'bicycle-only lane' is empty. What is the correct action?
- You may use it briefly when traffic is heavy
- Passenger cars may use it at any time
- It is a bicycle-only lane, so cars do not travel in it
- You may use it with hazard lights on
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — It is a bicycle-only lane, so cars do not travel in it
In Korea a bicycle-only lane is a type of exclusive lane that only designated bicycles and similar devices may use. Driving a car in it because it is empty violates the exclusive-lane rules. When passing such a lane, leave plenty of space from cyclists and check for them before turning right.

394.In Korea, you are cycling along the right edge of the roadway and the cars ahead are stopped waiting at a signal. How may you proceed?
- You may pass the stopped cars on their right, but go slowly and stop if necessary, watching for people getting in or out
- Bicycles may never pass cars
- You may pass stopped cars only on their left, near the center line
- Ride up onto the sidewalk to get ahead
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — You may pass the stopped cars on their right, but go slowly and stop if necessary, watching for people getting in or out
In Korea riders of bicycles and similar devices may pass slow-moving or stopped vehicles on their right. Because people may get in or out and open a door suddenly, go slowly and stop if necessary. Riding up onto the sidewalk is not allowed.

395.In Korea, when riding a motorcycle in the rain, where must you be especially careful because it is likely to be slippery?
- The middle of freshly laid, rough asphalt
- A dry dirt road
- Under the roof of a building's parking lot
- Manhole covers, steel plates, and road markings such as lane lines and crosswalks
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Manhole covers, steel plates, and road markings such as lane lines and crosswalks
Wet manhole covers, steel construction plates and painted lane lines or crosswalks are far more slippery than ordinary pavement. With only two wheels, a motorcycle falls easily if braked or leaned on them. Avoid them if possible; if you must cross, keep the bike upright and avoid sudden braking or steering.
-
396.In Korea, you are riding a motorcycle in the lane right beside a large truck, side by side. What is the safest way to ride?
- Stay right next to the truck's cab
- Do not linger in the truck driver's blind spots: drop back or get clear, and stay where the driver can see you
- Keep sounding the horn while riding alongside
- Cut in closely in front of the truck
Answer & explanation
Answer: ② — Do not linger in the truck driver's blind spots: drop back or get clear, and stay where the driver can see you
Large trucks have wide blind spots beside the cab, directly behind and right in front of the bumper. If you stay in one, the driver may not see you when changing lanes. Keep a good distance or move clear safely, and stay where you are visible in the driver's mirrors.

397.In Korea, which statement about the motorized bicycle license test is correct?
- There is only a skills test, with no written test
- Like a car license, a road test is always required
- There is a written test and an on-course skills test, but no road test
- It is issued after training alone, without any test
Answer & explanation
Answer: ③ — There is a written test and an on-course skills test, but no road test
In Korea the motorized bicycle license requires a written test and a skills test, and unlike Class 1 or 2 Ordinary licenses there is no road test. Applicants must be 16 or older. Since there is no road test, new riders should build experience on real roads with extra care.

398.In Korea, you are cycling toward a signalized intersection and the vehicle signal is red. There are no cars ahead, and pedestrians are using the crosswalk. What is the correct action?
- A bicycle is a vehicle, so stop before the stop line and do not obstruct the pedestrians crossing
- Bicycles need not obey signals, so carry on
- Slip slowly through the pedestrians
- Ride onto the sidewalk to get around the signal
Answer & explanation
Answer: ① — A bicycle is a vehicle, so stop before the stop line and do not obstruct the pedestrians crossing
Under Korea's Road Traffic Act a bicycle is a 'vehicle,' so like a car it must obey signals and protect pedestrians. On red, stop before the stop line and do not obstruct pedestrians on the crosswalk. Weaving through pedestrians or using the sidewalk to bypass the signal is dangerous and a violation.

399.In Korea, you are cycling and want to slow down. What hand signal tells following vehicles you are slowing?
- Extend the left arm straight out horizontally
- Bend the left arm with the hand pointing up
- Take both hands off the handlebar and wave
- Extend the arm out from the body down at 45 degrees and move it up and down
Answer & explanation
Answer: ④ — Extend the arm out from the body down at 45 degrees and move it up and down
In Korea, to signal slowing you extend the arm out from the vehicle (your body), down at 45 degrees, and move it up and down. Holding that position without moving it is the stop signal. A horizontal left arm means a left turn and a bent arm pointing up means a right turn; taking both hands off is dangerous.

Traffic Lights and Safety SignsSignals tell you when to go and when to stop; signs tell you what to watch for and what not to do on that road. Once you know the color and shape rules, you can guess the meaning of signs you have never seen.
Penalty Points, Fines and Penalty ChargesIn Korea, penalty points are added for each violation or crash. At 40 points your licence is suspended for one day per point, and if points accumulated over one, two or three years pass the threshold, it is revoked. If the driver is identified you get a fine plus points; if not, as with speed cameras, the owner gets a penalty charge.
Intersections and Right of WayThink of priority in this order: who was there first, which road is wider, who is on the right, and who is turning. Above all, people come before cars.
